"Get down!"

Lee Kangmu tackled Jang Hanna to the side, both agents crashing into the sidewalk and out of the way of a grenade thrown by one of the rioters that they'd been sent to suppress. Their team had tried to make the crowd disperse peacefully, but that hadn't worked, and now the small part of the city they were in was devolving into absolute chaos.

Kangmu sheltered Hanna with his own body as gunshots began to ring out in the evening air. Nothing hit them in the first few seconds, and Hanna pulled Kangmu to cover in a nearby alleyway. He pulled out his radio, pistol in his other hand.

"This is Black Tiger. We need backup here."

"Copy that, Black Tiger. Second unit is on its way."

Kangmu slid his radio back into his pocket and risked a glance outside the alley. Soldiers were beginning to march in, scattering dozens of rioters. Shattered glass and bullet casings littered the ground. Screams and shouts pierced the air.

His sharp eyes caught the form of a small child, maybe six or seven years old, wearing a red backpack, huddling in a ball behind a nearby trashcan and covering his head with his arms, but that wasn't very good cover. He could get hit by shrapnel or a bullet at any second.

"Hey," Kangmu whispered loudly, hoping the boy could hear him. "Over here!"

The kid heard the nearby voice and looked up, seeing the two agents in the alleyway. At first, he looked terrified, but then Kangmu stood and hurried over to him, ducking to avoid being seen by rioters.

"Come on," he told the boy. "It's not safe here."

He nodded and accepted Kangmu's hand, and he carried the child back to Hanna inside the alley, always making sure that his own body was shielding the boy from possible injury.

Kangmu put the child down next to Hanna. The boy was shaking, his hands clamped over his ears to block out the sound of gunshots and shouting. Hanna took her coat off and wrapped it around him, blocking his eyes from the violence. A loud grenade went off nearby, and Kangmu instinctively went to shield his fiancée. The child between them was safely covered in the process. A small bit of broken glass went flying into the alleyway, cutting Hanna across her cheek, but the little boy was safe.

Soon, the noise of the riot died down, replaced by the sound of fleeing footsteps and a military officer barking orders to his men. The boy peeked out from behind Hanna's coat, but when he saw the blood streaming down her face from the cut below her eye, he yelped and covered his eyes again.

Hanna's hand went up to her chin, and it came away covered with the warm red liquid. She mumbled an indistinguishable curse and reached for her coat, where she kept her emergency first aid kit, but the boy shrank away from her touch.

"Mianhae," she whispered soothingly. "I just need something in this pocket."

Kangmu had just finished surveying the street outside the alleyway. There was no one there except for a few soldiers. A couple people were wounded, and there was a lot of debris littering the pavement, but it didn't look nearly as bad as some riot scenes he'd been to before.

He glanced back at his companions, seeing Hanna dig out the first aid kit from her coat. Kangmu took the small box and opened it, looking to her for permission to treat her cut. She nodded, and he wiped away the blood from her face. The cut didn't look too deep, so he just applied a mild disinfectant and small bandage. She winced slightly from the sting of the disinfectant as it entered the cut, but the pain didn't last long. Kangmu gave her a small smile and pressed a quick kiss to her cheek.
