Lee Kangmu walked into the ANSP office. As he passed through, every agent and operator stood and bowed or saluted him. Seungjun and Dongjae quickly looked up from the report and photos they were going over and stood, raising their hands to their foreheads.
"Good morning, timjangnim," Dongjae said.
Kangmu looked down at the third person at the table, who remained seated. Jang Hanna's eyes were still on the report, like she didn't notice him.
"Hanna-ssi," Seungjun hissed, nudging her shoulder.
"What is it?" She asked, glancing up with a pen in her hand. Her eyes met Kangmu's, and her lips pursed in distaste. "Oh. It's you. What do you want?"
Dongjae and Seungjun gaped at her. No one ever talked to the Black Tiger like that.
"Nothing," Kangmu said, looking away. "I'm going to brief Chief Ahn now. Bring the report to me once you're done."
"Fine," Hanna said curtly, returning her attention to the few papers on the table. Seungjun and Dongjae sat back down.
"What's wrong with you?" Dongjae demanded. "How could you talk to Lee Kangmu-timjangnim like that?"
She simply shrugged. "He may be older than me, but I've been at this agency longer."
"He joined a year before you did," Seungjun said.
"Yes, then he got relocated to Germany," Hanna said. "I've been in Seoul longer."
Neither of the male agents decided to push the topic any further. A couple more hours passed before Dongjae passed his part of the report to Hanna.
"These papers are finished."
"These, too," Seungjun said, adding three more to the pile.
Hanna collected the whole report, checking to make sure each page was there, then slid them into a manila folder. "I'll take these to Kangmu."
She knocked once on the door to his office, not even waiting for an invitation to enter before she opened the door and stepped inside. She locked the door behind her. All the blinds on the windows facing the rest of the office were drawn shut, but the ones looking out to the parking lot were still open, letting sunlight into the small room.
"Here," she said, dropping the folder and papers onto Kangmu's desk. He picked it up and skimmed through the multiple pages, taking off the photographs from the paper clips that fastened them to the rest of the papers.
"I must say, Hanna-ya," he said, putting down the report. "You're quite the actress. If I didn't know better, I'd think you didn't like me."
Hanna smiled at her husband, sitting in a chair in front of his desk. "An agent has to be a good actor."
"It's better than the alternative, I suppose," Kangmu said. "We'd both get fired if Chief Ahn found out."
"I'd get fired," Hanna corrected. "You're too important and respected to get rid of."
"Well, if he fired you, I'd quit anyway," Kangmu said with a slight smile. "We could run a rice cake shop or something instead. I'm just never going to work without you."
Hanna snickered. "A rice cake shop?"
He huffed. "I'm trying to be sentimental for once, and you focus on the least important part of what I just said?"
"Of course," she teased. "Don't you know me by now?"
He rolled his eyes and threw a pen at her, which she caught easily. "You're still an enigma sometimes."
Hanna threw his pen back at him, and it hit his forehead before falling back down to his desk.
"Ow!" Kangmu complained.
"Aw, mianhae," Hanna said in a sweet and innocent tone. "Do you need me to kiss you better?"
Kangmu smiled, glancing over at the blinds to make sure no one could see them. "You can do that. I won't stop you."
She rolled her eyes playfully. "I know you won't."
She stood, but instead of walking towards him, she turned and headed for the door, hiding a smile.
"Ya-" Kangmu got up and grabbed her wrist before she could reach the door. "Where do you think you're going?"
Hanna blinked innocently at him. "Uh... back to work?"
"I didn't dismiss you, Hanna-ya," he scolded playfully, brushing his hand against her cheek.
"Since when do I need to be dismissed by you when I don't even salute you?" Hanna asked.
Kangmu pouted childishly. "Since you promised me a kiss but didn't give me one."
She frowned. "Can't it wait till we're back home? What if someone-"
"I never thought you'd try to put something off until later," Kangmu said.
"I-I'm not..."
"Not what?" Kangmu asked as she trailed off.
"Never mind," she said, wrapping her arms around his neck and pushing herself up on her tiptoes to meet his lips. The kiss was only a few seconds long, but they didn't need any more than that, especially since they couldn't risk anyone finding out about them.
Kangmu pulled away, a lovesick smile on his face. He dropped a quick peck to Hanna's nose before letting go of her.
"I'll see you tonight, jagiya," he said as she walked to the door and unlocked it. She gave him one last smile before exiting his office.
"Ya, Hanna-ssi, what took so long?" Dongjae asked as she returned to the table he was sitting at with Seungjun.
"Oh, nothing," Hanna said nonchalantly, running her hand through her hair. "He's just too dumb to understand the report without me explaining it to him."
"That, or he can't read Seungjun-hyung's handwriting," Dong-jae teased.
"Ya!" Seungjun jokingly punched Dongjae in the shoulder.
Hanna grinned, but it wasn't because of her two teammates. They didn't know the half of what was really going on with her and Lee Kangmu. That was top-secret.
