You had been home for four days and still hadn't unpacked your suitcase from Michigan. You stood in front of your bed, a towel wrapped in your damp hair with your hands on your hips trying to decide if now was the time to do so.

It was 6:45 in the morning and you had just gotten out of the shower to get ready for work. You looked over at Duke who was curled up in a tiny ball occupying Calum's vacant side of the bed.
"Whatcha think bub? Do you think I have enough time to unpack, get ready for work, AND leave on time??"
Duke stared at you blankly for a moment before closing his eyes and rolling over to face away from you with a huff,
You sighed, "Yeah I didn't think so either.."

You walked into the kitchen and turned on the Keurig, popping a pod of French vanilla in the top so you could make yourself a cup of coffee.
You had woken up a lot earlier than you had wanted to this morning but you weren't surprised.
This was normal for you when Calum wasn't home.
It always took you longer to fall asleep in the evening, tossing and turning, mind racing, and it never failed that you would wake up multiple times throughout the night on top of waking up much earlier than you usually did.
It wasn't that you were scared of being there without him, it was that you didn't WANT to be there without him. Not in the clingy way by no means. But his presence alone beside you in the bed at night brought you a different kind of ease and comfort, being wrapped up in his arms was just a plus.
Although to be fair it really hadn't been AS bad the past few nights because you knew he would be coming home today.
But when he was gone on tour for months at a time..... yeah well that was a different story.

You poured the coffee into your cup and added your normal cream and sugar before heading back to your bedroom and walking straight to the closet to figure out what you wanted to wear.

Andrew had always been really laid back when it came to your dress code for work. "As long as you're not in pajamas" he would always say, but you never took advantage of his leniency. You always made sure to be comfy, but also professional.
You flipped through your clothes for a minute before walking over to your night stand and grabbing your phone to check on the LA weather for today.
As per usual, it was supposed to be disgustingly hot and humid all day.
You finally just decided on a simple black silk camisole tucked into some grey trousers, with a pair of black heels.
The hot weather always playing a big role in your decision.

Once you had your clothes on you walked into the bathroom and finally discarded your towel that had been perched on top of your head for way too long

Once you had your clothes on you walked into the bathroom and finally discarded your towel that had been perched on top of your head for way too long. Considering it was going to be humid today you figured curls were the best option for your locks.
You stuck your diffuser on your hair dryer and dried the rest of your hair before putting a little bit of product in it to tame the mess, there was no point in doing much because your hair had a mind of its own. Even on a good day.
When you were satisfied with it you quickly applied some bb cream to your face with a little bit of highlighter, and a coat of mascara to finish of your look.
Nothing fancy, but good enough that you approved.
When you walked out of the bathroom you did yourself a little once over in the mirror and decided you needed some jewelry to really complete your look. You walked and over to your jewelry box that was sitting on your dresser and grabbed your engagement ring, sliding it on your finger and admiring its sparkle for a moment before sliding on a few other rings and bracelets.
And then you saw it.
That familiar gold chain.
You and Jake didn't speak again after he followed out of the barn that night. You saw him a few more times at the wedding and again the next day at Karen's when you were telling your family goodbye but he had avoided you like the plague. Not that you were exactly seeking him out either.
And you tried to pretend like it didn't bother you, putting on a smile around everyone, laughing every now and then.
But it did bother you.
As much as you wanted to just completely forget Jake Kiszka and move on with your life you knew that wasn't going to happen until you had some sort closure.
You stared at the necklace for a moment, the memories rushing through your head of the night he gave it to you before you shook off the thoughts and picked it up, clasping it around your neck with a sigh.
You heard a grunt from behind you as you turned to find Duke looking at you skeptically.
"What? It's just a necklace..." you said with a shrug but it sounded more like you were convincing yourself more than anything.
