Lessons Learned

In an elegant twilit area of ivy-covered pillars, rounded archways, and lion-decorated fountains, Eclipse sat cross legged on the ground, a calm expression on her face as Cerberus slept next to her. She had taken her jacket off earlier, her halter neck romper leaving her shoulders and back exposed.

Eclipse kept her eyes closed as she cleared her mind of bad memories. She was trying to summon an Ursa without using more negative thoughts. She had learned before that the darker her thoughts were when summoning, the wilder the Grimm would act. She had simply gotten lucky with the Ursa she summoned before but she didn't like to bet on luck in fights.

The noirette took a deep breath and summoned a small purple glyph on the ground. Shadows started to form before-

"Eclipse?" Her eyes snapped open and the shadows reached out toward the familiar voice before Eclipse quickly made them vanish.

"Hola Princesa," she greeted. Weiss raised an eyebrow at the noirette on the floor. "What are you doing here?"

"I was showing my sister around the academy." Weiss gestured to the woman next to her. "Winter, this is Eclipse Tooru-Sai. Eclipse, this is my older sister Winter."

Eclipse stood from the ground and walked over to the two, taking Winter's hand and placing a small kiss to the back of it. Weiss' eye twitched in annoyance at her antics.

"I see breathtaking looks run in the family."

"I hate you so much."

"Eclipse Tooru-Sai, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Ms. Schnee." Eclipse smirked, ignoring Weiss' interruption.

Weiss, who had moved behind Eclipse, kicked her in the back of the knee making the other teen wince and clutch her leg in pain. Winter simply narrowed her eyes at the interaction reminiscent of a certain red eyed man.

"Well Eclipse, I wish to thank you for taking interest in my sister."

"Oh?" Eclipse blinked. She turned her head slightly to look at Weiss who had a dust of pink on her face. "It's no problem. She's quite delightful to be around when she wants to be."

Eclipse smiled at the two before Cerberus came and nuzzled Weiss' hand. Winter's eyes widened as her little sister patted the Beowolf on the nose.

"Weiss? What is that thing doing?" Winter asked cautiously, her hand quickly going to her weapon.

"This is Cerberus. He's Eclipse's pet." Weiss explained. "He's tamed."

"How did you tame a Beowolf?" Winter asked Eclipse.

"It was an accident. Actually, I'm not sure how I did it." She shrugged and reached for her jacket.

"Where are you going?" Weiss asked her.

"Well I'm sure you two have some catching up to do. I'll see you later Princesa. It was nice to meet you Winter." She turned around and left with Cerberus following after. Neither seeing the shocked faces the sisters made at the large scar on her back.

After all, she had learned the darker her thoughts were when summoning, the wilder the Grimm would act.

Eclipse had gone back to the girls' dorm room and let Cerberus stay there as she went up to the roof. She sat on the edge letting her legs dangle off the side as she lit a cigarette and brought it to her lips. She took a long drag as a crow started cawing.

The noirette closed her eyes as she let the smoke pass her lips and hummed as she heard the bird land next to her.

"Hey old man."

"I'm not old." Qrow's raspy voice made her open her eyes again. "Didn't I tell you to stop smoking?"

"I'll stop smoking when you stop drinking." Eclipse replied.

A silence passed between them as they both knew what would happen if he tried to argue with her.

"How've you been so far?" Qrow asked.

"Good." Eclipse said shortly.

"What about your nightmares?" She took another drag from her cigarette. "Eclipse? ...Queenie?"

"I saw them again. Same dream." She finally said.

"How about we go get dinner, hm?" He suggested. "You can get as much fish as you want and I wont judge you."

"Please we both know that's a lie." Eclipse smiled. They sat in a comfortable silence as the moon watched from above. Eclipse put out her cigarette and moved her hand to the ring on her left hand. "...do you think they remember me?"

Qrow thought over the question for a minute before answering, "I may not have known you when you were a child but I know that I'd never be able to forget such a little brat."

He grabbed her and ruffled her hair as he finished.

"Hey! Get off you old hag!" she yelled, trying to get out of the man's hold. He finally let her go when he was sure her hair was completely ruined. "Thanks a lot."

"You're welcome kid." He smirked. He laughed as the tall teen flipped him off making him laugh harder.

Eclipse tried to keep the smile off her face before giving in and laughing with the man. That's how it had been since he found her as a 15 year old, Qrow was just someone she couldn't help but laugh with.

Sooooo how's everyone been?

ok so sorry that this took so long. I didn't plan on taking a break but spring has been kicking my ass and volume 3 is kinda hard to write. here are some fun facts about Eclipse though to make up for it.

she has lived on the streets since she was 9 years old

she has a ring on her left middle finger that nobody has ever seen her without. its a black ring with amethyst gems embedded in it

she views Qrow as a second father

the scar on her back goes from her right shoulder blade down to her left hip from the first time she successfully summoned a Ursa (before she went to signal)
