Rebecca walked excitedly through the front doors of her apartment building. She smiled at the security guard, Clint—a 70 year old man who had started working at the apartment complex once he retired from the navy—but he didn't smile back.

She became friends with him when she first started living there, and he's always greeted her. She clicked the elevator button as she pondered about what she could have done to make him not smile at her.

She reached down and played with her engagement ring, and smiled as she thought about her fiancé. She had just came back from a business trip, where she spent one week in Missouri. She had to take her final test, and if she passed she could finally start working at a dentistry. Now that she was back, she was going to surprise him at their apartment.

When the elevator doors opened she walked out smiling, walking quickly towards their apartment. She turned the corner and came to a complete stop when she saw a man pacing back and forth in front of the door.

She had never met this guy before, but she was pretty sure he didn't live at that apartment. She opened her mouth to ask him to move, but he stopped suddenly and started shaking his ahead placing his hands on his hips.

Rebecca looked down and started walking towards the door. "Do you live here?"

Rebecca stopped a foot away from the door. "Uh...yes. This is mine and my fiancé's apartment..."

The man scoffed and shook his head. "Did you just say fiancé?

Rebecca looked behind her to make sure she wasn't about to get kidnapped, because the man in front of her was starting to creep her out. "Why are you asking me this? Not to sound mean, but you're creeping me out. Why are you lurking around my door?"

"Because your fiancé is inside my girlfriend." He said shaking his head.

Rebecca furrowed her eyebrows. "I'm sorry, what?"

The man pointed towards the door. "My girlfriend is getting laid by your fiancé." He pulled out his phone. "I tracked her on my phone because she wasn't answering my calls, and then it said she was here. It didn't take me long to figure out what was going on though..."

Rebecca then leaned in closer to the door and heard the sounds coming from inside the apartment. She stepped back shocked. "Oh my god."

Rebecca placed a hand over her head before walking backwards. Once her back hit the wall she slid down and stared at the wall in front of her.

The man sighed and walked towards her, sitting down next to her. "Was he expecting you?"

Rebecca looked up at him before looking back down ashamed. "No...I've been gone on a business trip. I landed a few hours ago, and was going to come home to surprise him."

The man leaned his head back and placed it on the wall, looking up at the ceiling. "Dang. How long have you been gone?"

"A week." She scoffed and looked over at him. "I was taking an exam so I could get my degree."

He looked back down and made eye contact with her. "Did you pass?"

Rebecca nodded and gave him a small smile. "Yeah. I was gonna tell him over dinner tonight..."

Rebecca then wondered why she was wasn't crying yet? The man she has been in a relationship with for the last 3 years, is currently in their apartment screwing another woman, and she hasn't teared up once.

He gave her a sympathetic smile. "What's your name?"

She looked at him for a moment, trying to see if she could trust him. This moment might be the worst moment of her life, but he was incredibly handsome. And honestly, he seemed more trustworthy than Luke, which is sad considering they we're supposed to get married in 2 months. "Rebecca." She then smiled at him. "What's yours?"

The man nodded and grinned at her name. "Colby. It's nice to meet you. Just wish it was under different circumstances."

Rebecca laughed. "Yeah. Me too."

Not hearing any more noises, the two looked towards the door, realizing that they're finally done screwing.

They turned their heads towards an opening elevator to reveal a caterer pushing a cart of quinoa towards her apartment door. "Are you kidding me?! That's my favorite meal!" Rebecca then jumped up and grabbed the food before sitting back down again. "They're delusional if they think they're gonna cheat on us and eat my favorite meal."

Colby chuckled before standing up and pulling out his wallet. He then handed the caterer his money before sitting back down. "Can i have a box?"

Rebecca nodded with a mouth full of quinoa. "Go ahead. I won't be able to eat all of this anyways."

The two then sat there eating and talking about their lives wondering how crazy this all seemed. Once they were done Colby threw his garbage at the door. "Cheaters."

Rebecca chuckled and picked her now empty bowl up and tossed it at the door. She then laughed before leaning back against the wall again. "His name is Luke." Colby turned his head and listened to her. "We've been together for 3 years, engaged for 1. We were supposed to get married in 2 months, but that's not  happening any more." She said sliding the ring off her finger and throwing it at the door, watching as it fell into the stack of garbage.

Colby nodded. "Well I'm glad you didn't say your vows before all of this." Rebecca then turned her attention towards him. "It would have been a wasted wedding." Rebecca sighed. "Her name is Sarah, by the way. We've been together for 4 years now."

Rebecca pressed her lips together. "Wow." She then fiddled with her skirt. "Is she pretty?" When Colby furrowed his eyebrows, she spoke up again. "He cheated on me with her...she has to be pretty..."

Colby took a deep breath. "She's pretty...but not prettier than you." Rebecca blushed and nodded smiling.

Suddenly, the apartment door unlocked, making Rebecca and Colby look up. Colby stood up and grabbed Rebecca's hands helping her to her feet, before squeezing her hand to let her know everything was going to be ok. Nerves building up, they waited impatiently, not ready for the confrontation that was about to go down.
