Chapter 8

Rebecca can feel the heat of his body next to her. She likes that the sun is up and he's still there. She feels Colby move before she opens her eyes. His hands finds hers beneath her pillow and he threads their fingers together. "Good morning."

When she opens her eyes, she's smiling. He lifts his other arm and brushes his thumb over her cheek. "What'd I miss while you were asleep? Did you dream?"

I think that might be the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. I don't know if that's good or bad. "I had kind of a strange dream. You were in it."

He perks up, releasing her hand and lifting onto his elbow. "Oh yeah? Tell me about it."

"I had a dream that you showed up here in head-to-toe scuba gear. And you told me to put my scuba gear on because we were going to swim with sharks. I told you I was scared of sharks and you said, 'But Rebecca. These sharks are actually fake. And then I said, 'But I'm scared of the ocean.' And you said, 'But Becks. This ocean is actually a park."

Colby laughs. "What happened next?"

"I put on my scuba gear, of course. But you didn't take me to an ocean or a park. You took me to meet your mother. And I was so embarrassed and so mad at you because I was wearing a scuba-diving suit at her dinner table."

Colby falls onto his back with laughter. "Rebecca, that is the best dream in the history of dreams." His reaction makes her want to tell him every dream she has for the rest of her life.

She likes that he rolls toward her and looks at her like there's nowhere else he'd rather be. He leans forward and presses his mouth to hers. She wants to stay in bed with him all day, but he pulls away and says, "I'm hungry. You got anything to eat?" She nods, but before he can climb out of bed, she pulls him back and presses her lips against his cheek. "I like you, Colby." She rolls off him and heads to her bathroom.

He calls out after her. "Of course you like me, Rebecca! I'm your soul mate!"

She laughs as she closes the door to the bathroom. And then she wants to scream when she looks in the mirror. Holy crap. She has mascara smeared everywhere. A pimple that appeared on her forehead overnight. Her hair is a mess, but not in that sexy, come-hither way. It's just a mess. Like a rat slept in it all night. She groans and then yells, "I'm taking a shower!"

Colby yells back from the kitchen. "I'm looking for food!" She doubts he will find much. Her and the girls don't keep a lot of groceries because shes the only one that cooks.

The girls! Rebecca poked her head out, "Colby are the girls here?!"

Colby looks around. "No? Maybe? There's a high heel in front of this door."

Crap! "Don't bother them Colby, and try to be quiet." She says stepping back in the bathroom.

Colby laughs. "You're the one yelling."

She steps into the shower. She has no idea if he's staying after breakfast, but while she showers, she makes sure to pay special attention to certain areas just in case.

Shes been in the shower all of three minutes when the bathroom door opens. "You don't have anything to eat."

The sound of his voice in her bathroom surprises her so much, she almost slips and falls. She grips the shower bar and steadies herself , but immediately lets go of the bar and cover her breasts when she sees the shower curtain move.

Colby peeks his head inside the shower. He looks straight at her face and nowhere else, but shes still doing everything she can to shield herself. "You have absolutely no food. Crackers and a stale box of cereal." He says this like it's not at all unusual that he's looking at her naked. "Want me to go grab breakfast?"

Rebecca thinks about how hungry she is and how the girls are gonna need food too. "Sure." She's wide-eyed, still shocked from his confident intrusion.

Colby grins, pulling his bottom lip in with his teeth. His eyes begin to slowly trail down her body. "My God, Rebecca," he whispers. He closes the shower curtain and says, "I'll be back in a little while." Right before he walks out of my bathroom she hears him whisper, "Dang."

She can't help but smile. She loves how that just made her feel. She turns around and faces the shower spray as she closes her eyes and lets the warm water beat down on her face. She can't seem to figure Colby out. He's just the right amount of confidence and cocky. But he balances that out with his relevant side. He's funny and smart and he comes on way to strong, but it all feels genuine.

When she's finished with her shower, she drys off and pulls on a t-shirt and a pair of yoga pants. She has no idea what Colby's intentions are, but she still decides to dress comfy.

She walks out of the bathroom and sees her phone lit up on her night stand. She lifts it and reads the message. This is Colby, your soul mate. What do you want for breakfast? McDonald's? Starbucks? Donuts?

Rebecca smiles. Donuts sound great!

A few minutes later Colby comes back with the donuts in hand. They sit down on the couch and begin eating.

"Thank you for breakfast." Rebecca says finishing her donut.

"My pleasure." He then gets a phone call. "It's my mother, don't freak out."

Rebecca laughs and tries not to listen in on their conversation, but when Colby turns around and smiles at her, she froze. "Yeah dinner sounds amazing. Can I bring a date?"

Rebecca shakes her head. "Her name is Rebecca." He watches her as he continues. "Yeah it's pretty serious. Been dating for a while."

Rebecca rolls her eyes at his lie. "Hold on, I'll ask her. Do you want pie or cobbler for desert?"

She steps closer to him. "We haven't been on a date yet." She whispered.

He covers his phone. "We just did. We had donuts." There's a pause. "She prefers pie. And six sounds good."

He ends the call. "Don't worry, Rebecca. Once you taste her cooking, you'll never want to leave."

Rebecca sighs. "You are nothing like I expected."

He presses a kiss to the top of her head. "Is that good or bad?"

"I honestly have no idea."
