Colby wasn't the one who pushed for sex the first night he met someone, but when he saw Rebecca at the bar, all he wanted to do was get inside of her. Now that he's had a couple of beers and is in her apartment, he's making conversation with her, so he won't think about sex so much.Plus, she had a point. What if they told each other stuff and they didn't like each other anymore? Colby knew he was going to be obsessed with her no matter what, but he did want to get to know her. Especially since he thinks they're going to spend the rest of their lives together.
"So what's your favorite movie?" Colby asked still lying beside of her.
Rebecca tapped her chin. "Probably the greatest showman."
Colby smiled. "So you're into musicals?"
"I just really like the movie. It shows that everyone is different, and that the world just needs to except that." She says looking up at him. "Plus the music is great. So is Zac Efron."
Colby laughed and grabbed her wrist, sliding it out from under her head. He threads his fingers through hers and rests their hands between them. Rebecca tried not to focus too much on how sweet she thought it was. "Whats your favorite holiday?"
"All of them. But I'm partial to Halloween." He says.
"That's not what I expected you to say." Rebecca said grinning. "Do you like it for the costumes or the candy?"
"I love dressing up, so the costumes." He ran his thumb over their intertwined hands. "My favorite costume I've worn is when me Joseph and Jonathan dressed as ghostbusters."
Rebecca smiled. "Thats pretty spectacular."
Colby nodded. "Yeah. Joseph's daughter dressed up as a ghost so it was a perfect fit." Rebecca awed before he spoke up again. "What about you? Do you like Halloween?"
"Im not opposed to it, but Luke never wanted to dress up with me. I wanted us to go as Joker and Harley Quinn one year, but he told me I was stupid for even thinking about it." Rebecca looked down at their hands.
Colby lifted their hands up and kissed her palm. "Well since we're soulmates, I would love to dress as Joker and Harley Quinn."
Rebecca smiled. "What makes you so sure we're soulmates?"
Colby furrowed his eyebrows. "What kind of question is that? The universe brings us together and we find our significant others cheating on us at the same time. Then a month later our friends force us to go out and we meet again. And now we're in an apartment you share with your friends talking about Halloween, which is actually over two months away, so we'll practically be living together by then."
Rebecca laughed and looked up at the ceiling. "You're way to confident."
"You could call it that." He said admiring her side profile.
"Most men push for sex right away. But we forgot each others numbers one night then a month later we both end up in my apartment and you're forcing me into conversation." Rebecca then looked back down at him. "I can't tell if I should be worried."
Colby raised an eyebrow. "Don't mistake me for something I'm not. Sometimes I'm all for the sex up front, but you have an eternity to get to it."
Rebecca tries not to blush as she lifts up on her pillow and raises her brow. "Sex I'm okay with. Eternal commitment is pushing it."
Colby slides an arm beneath her and pulls her against him so that her head is now resting on his chest. "Whatever you say, Rebecca. If you want us to pretend for a few more months that we aren't soulmates, that's fine with me. I'm a great actor."
Rebecca laughs at his sarcasm. "Soul mates don't exist."
"I know," he says. "We aren't soul mates. Soulmates are dumb."
"Im serious, Colby." She said laughing.
"Me too. Completely serious." Colby said.
Rebecca laughed again and brushed the side of his head. "You're an idiot."
Colby presses his lips into her hair, kissing her on the top of the head. "What's todays date?"
He is so random. She lifts her head and looks at him. "August 8th. Why?"
"Just want to make sure you never forget the date the universe brought us back together." He said.
Rebecca lays her head against him again. "You're coming on way too strong. It's probably going to scare me away."
His chest moves with his quiet laughter. "No, it won't. You'll see. Ten years from now on August 8th, I'm going to roll over in our bed and whisper, "I told you so" in your ear.
"Are you that petty?" She asked smiling.
"The pettiest."
Rebecca laughs. She laughs a lot while they talk. She didn't know how long they laid in the same position talking, but she still had a million questions left when she started yawning. She fights it because talking to him is somehow even more relaxing than sleep.
She wraps her arms over his and closes her eyes. "I thought you were kidding about the no sex." She whispers.
She feels him laugh a little. "Keeping my pants on is not as easy as I'm making it look." He pushed against her butt to let her know how serious he is. She can feel him straining against his jeans.
"That must be painful," she teases. "You sure you don't want to change your mind?"
He squeezes her tighter, pressing a kiss close to her ear. "I've never been more comfortable."
His words make her blush in the dark, but she don't respond to him. She don't have a reply good enough. She's quiet for several minutes as she listens to his breathing slow into a peaceful pattern. Right before she falls asleep, Colby whispers against her ear. "I thought you were the one who got away."
She smiles. "I still could be."
"Don't be."
She tries to say "I won't be," but he puts his hand between her cheek and the pillow and tilts her head until his mouth reaches hers. They kiss just enough. Not too short, but not too long that it leads to something else. It's the perfect kiss, for the perfect moment.
