"Aniue-sama! You know I try really hard to perfect the tea? I get help from everyone and yet you still say it's no good."
"Soyo, I have not said anything of the sorts."
"But Aniue-sama, I just heard you say that it's not good!" the young girl pouted and angrily crossed her arms, wrinkling her expensive kimono in the process. "I don't want to talk to you anymore! Don't come into my room!"
"Soyo? ...Were my words that harsh?" the current shogun was currently confused—he certainly did not have a way with words at all. In the past few days, it seems that his actions have saddened his beloved sister. However, the shogun wasn't sure if he should go ahead and apologise to his sister. After all, she did say she didn't want to speak with him anymore.
Being the oblivious and stupid older brother, he followed his sister's words. And so, as days went passed, continued to wait for Soyo at their daily tea spot—he waited, and waited. It had been a week since their argument.
The shogun then suddenly realised how his words had affected his beloved sister. He was aching to see her and get a taste of the bitter tea—however, at this moment in time, he wasn't sure if he had the privilege to do that anymore. After all, he had hurt her to the point where she no longer wanted to speak with him!
"Ue-sama, please– you have to stop pacing!"
"Maizō-san, I have not seen Soyo in so long. I'm worried about her," he admitted, a frown plastered on his face.
"I promise, we're looking for her– I mean, she's in her room safe–"
"Excuse me?" the shogun stopped walking, and approached the older man. "Soyo... she has run away? Oh no, this is all my fault!" he then walked over to the engawa, ready to take a step outside the building.
"Ue-sama! No! She's in her room!" Maizō lied, hoping that the royal would believe him. "If you would calm down, you would think straight. She's not quiet enough to sneak out of the palace."
"That's true..." Shogun halted in his movements, "...But Soyo has been writing to a friend lately. Perhaps–"
"You're overthinking it!"
。。。
Shigeshige was certainly not overthinking it. In fact, he had a plan to go out and find his sister. The very next day, he had stolen some 'commoner' clothes along with a pair of glasses and a moustache to go along with his disguise. He thought to bring a wig along, but it would've been a bit too... extra.
So, he had easily escaped his home with the knowledge of hidden gateways and headed off towards the outskirts of the city of Edo. He recalled Soyo telling him about her friend—it scared him at first, but knowing that she was happy at the fact that she had a friend, eased his worries (but not all of them).
Apparently, the Shogun didn't understand what the regular people of Edo did daily. He thought he understood his people fairly well. Matsudaira has always informed him of the crimes and acts the people do—some were bad, some were good. But roaming around by himself was a different experience.
He's been seeing some awful things happening. Take for example, there was a homeless guy sitting on a bench with what looked like alcohol in broad daylight! Children could come and see that. There were just also some weird people walking around like gangstas. Oh, how he wanted some company right now.
Well, within five minutes of that wish, he definitely did get company. But not the kind he was looking for. Those gangstas that he glanced at just a few minutes ago were now ganging up on him in the middle of the street. "Who do you think you are, HAH?!" the man guy spit onto the floor.
