Today was an incredibly special day. One of your closest friends was coming to Edo for a visit. You call her a close friend, yet you've actually only known her for a few short months and have only hung out once before. Even then, you called her often, and always made sure to keep her updated on her brother; she always worried about him. Your choice of words weren't specific enough; she wasn't coming for a visit for you, but instead for her fiancé.
"[name]-san! You've got everything planned right?"
"Yes, Kondo-san. I arranged an escort to help her get from the station to the Shinsengumi headquarters. She should be here soon."
"Good, good. Sougo is going to be especially happy today. But..." the captain took a big sigh. "[name]-san," you tilted your head. "Please take care of Mitsuba-dono. Her sickness isn't getting any better and I'm afraid... that she won't make it. Can I count on you to make sure that she isn't too stressed, or anything of the sort that will make her feel any worse?"
"I... I'll do my very best. I'll make sure that she'll be in good health. You can trust me."
"Thank you," he pat your back. "Now, remember, if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to let me know!"
"Excuse me?" a girl's voice rang from outside the sliding doors. She opened them and was met with a warm bear hug.
"Mitsuba-chan! You're here! I've missed you so much," you could feel your friend return your gesture of affection and also chuckle.
"I missed you too, [name]-chan. It's been a while! Thank you for always updating me on Sou-chan."
"It's no problem at all! I'll make some tea. Make yourself at home," you offered her a seat across from Kondo. While the two talked, you went into another room and made the hot drink. You then heard almost like a chanting of your name.
"[me]... [name]... oi..." the tone of the voice made you shiver from how creepy it was. "di... hear me..." A pair of hands then landed on your shoulders. "I said, didn't you hear me?"
Your head turned to see the person behind you. "Why do you look like that? Sougo?" you questioned the demonic look he had on his face. His eyes were almost popping out of his sockets with his purple eye bags below his eyes. "You're going to scare everyone away."
"Shut up. How... how is my Aneue?" his body posture immediately became timider. It was like he was about to confess to his high school crush.
"You should ask her yourself. But please come in a few minutes after I do. Kondo-san and I want to catch up with her before you. You know, since you'll be hanging out with her for the day."
"Right... Then hurry up. I want to see her."
"Okay, okay," you placed the lid back on the teapot and made your way to the room. "Here you go, Mitsuba-chan, Kondo-san." They both thanked you and took a sip; you took a seat next to the captain. "So, what have you been up to lately? You recently got engaged right?"
"Ah... yes, I did. He's a very kind man. We're going to get married in a few months and I was just about to ask you two if you would like to come."
"Of course! I wouldn't miss it."
Kondo laughed out loud, "I see, I see. That's wonderful. The entire Shinsengumi will attend the ceremony."
Mitsuba put down her tea cup, "To tell you the truth, I had given up on marriage. My health isn't good, I'm an old lady, and no one would marry me. I should be grateful."
"No, no," Kondo shook his head, "you haven't changed at all, Mitsuba-dono. Pretty, polite and bright. Sougo often talks about you. He's very proud of his sister."
