"Hehehehehahahahaha!! You fucking pretty boys think you're all that, huh? Well, say that to the end of my pistol!" Darkness covered me. I couldn't see a thing. All around me was inky blackness, and the voice that emanated from the depths sent chills up my spine. I felt cold and vulnerable, uncomfortable in my surroundings even though I didn't know where I was. The voice once again let out a laugh rife with malice and dangerous insanity. "One move and they get it!"
"Let them go!" I heard someone new shout. It was a voice I vaguely recognised, bringing me the memory of someone small in stature but constantly fighting to live up to his brothers. Matthew. Then, from directly behind me, a voice I recognised immediately.
"C'mon, chicken shit! Fight us like a real man!" Sam. I felt myself relaxing slightly at the sound of his voice, only to tense up again when the brittle laugh flooded my ears again.
"Like you scare me, Sam! Come on! Take one step. I dare ya..."
"Stay away from them, Malix!" So that was this new person's name. It didn't ring any bells, even when I thought back to what Sam had told me the night before. Were all of the incubi here?
"What are you gonna do, nerd boy?!" Malix taunted.

Out of nowhere, I felt arms wrap around my form protectively and suddenly, I was being gently dragged away. I fought with everything I could to get away, only for his voice to stop me cold.
"I was so worried about you..." Sam began to rock me gently, burying his face into my shoulder.
"Sam?!" I exclaimed. The incubus let out a breath. "Don't worry, I'm here. I'll always be here for you..." Bit by bit, the sounds around me faded. Calm and quiet descended, and Sam's last words floated through the air, burying themselves deep in my brain.

Light bloomed through the darkness as Sam continued to rock me from side to side. I could hear birds chirping, and the wind rustling the leaves on the trees outside. My eyes fluttered open to take in the room I'd fallen asleep in last night. I pushed gently against Sam, who was still rocking me, to signal that I was awake. But when he pulled back, I saw not brown hair, but vibrant ginger. I blinked rapidly.
"Damien! I thought... I mean..." Damien smiled calmly at me.
"You thought I was Sam." I went pink and nodded sheepishly.
"Uh... What time is it?" I asked.
"It's nine AM. James and I were making breakfast when I... Well... I heard your dream." I buried my face in my hands.
"Was I screaming that loudly...?"
"N-No! I can read minds, remember?" I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh, thank Christ..." I peered at him curiously. "You can't control the mind reading?" Damien shook his head and I sighed again. "So you know, then."
"I do. But you don't have to worry, Mx. Something I have learned is how to be a good keeper of secrets."
"Thanks, Damien... Wait." My mind suddenly flashed back to the time I'd spent with Sam. I didn't even have to ask because Damien nodded with something of a mischievous sparkle in his eye. I flushed bright red as a knock sounded at my bedroom door before swinging open to reveal James.

"Is everything alright?" He asked me. I nodded. "That's good. I'm assuming you had a nightmare?"
"Yeah, something like that..."
"Well, if you're alright, why not come downstairs and have some breakfast? I'm sure some nice food will take your mind off of what you dreamt of."
"That sounds awesome, I've just gotta get myself sorted first."
"As you wish, Mx. Oh, and since Damien and I were up early, we brought up your bags for you that were by the front door. They're just here." James stepped aside to reveal the small pile of my belongings next to him.
"Oh! You didn't have to..."
"It wasn't a problem, Mx. Now, we will leave you to get ready." He sent me a respectful nod and exited the room. Damien lingered for a moment, seemingly hesitating, then gently touched my shoulder, alerting my attention.
"If it's any consolation," He whispered to me. "Sam would never betray your trust. He cares a little too much for that." He left without another word, leaving me incredibly confused.
"What the fuck does that mean?" I muttered to myself. I had no clue, but I shook off his words for the time being and dragged in the stuff that had been brought up for me.
