We were surrounded by devils. A gun was being aimed at my face. Sam was stuck, unable to move lest it get me killed. Malix was laughing madly, taunting Sam for all it was worth. I was shivering, both from fear and cold. I was bound down and there wasn't anything I could do to help Sam. I'd never felt more useless.
"Sam, you have two options," Malix said in a mockingly business-like manner. "Either you can run at me now and I'll shoot your precious human. Or you can stand there and watch as I fuck them and kill them after instead." Sam didn't move, but his eyes were raging with anger. It was a lose-lose situation, and he clearly had no idea what to do. Malix raised an eyebrow. "Interesting choice. I thought you'd at least spare them the pain, Sam." He snapped his fingers and chains erupted from the ground and latched themselves onto Sam's wrists. They weren't ordinary metal like mine, though. They were glowing crimson and burning hot. I could smell seared flesh as Sam struggled against them furiously. Apparently, Malix no longer cared that Sam was moving around. With another snap of his fingers, my own cuffs vanished. I took the opportunity to try and scramble away from him, but it was to no avail. He grabbed me by the throat and lifted me up, causing black spots to appear before my eyes. A third snap and the chains were dangling from the ceiling instead. I could feel tears slipping down my face, but I couldn't make a sound. The other devils watched gleefully as Sam fought against his binds. Malix shoved me roughly against a pole holding the warehouse up, grinning maliciously. One hand remained tightly around my throat and the other slid excruciatingly slowly into the waistband of my leggings. He squeezed my neck slightly, not enough to fully asphyxiate me but just enough to let me know that struggling was futile. I didn't think he was bluffing. Malix would choke the life from my lungs if I so much as wriggled. As the devil's fingers brushed against the area I never planned on letting anyone touch, a strangled whimper forced its way out of my lungs.
The air went still. Malix withdrew his hand, confused, and both of us looked at Sam. The incubus was staring at Malix with such ferocity that I half expected Malix to burst into flames. I could see the aura that surrounded him, burning ruby red before it merged into a poisonous mix of purple and green.
"I..." He wrenched his left wrist through its chain as though it were made of paper. "Fucking..." He did the same with the other wrist, and Malix's face went from confused to utterly terrified. "Warned you..." His eyes lit up gold, but not to enthral anyone. Instead, he let out a giant, animalistic roar that shook the warehouse and sent most of the devils fleeing from the scene. He flew at Malix at the speed of light. I could only stare as Sam began to change. Streaks of forest green appeared on his skin as he tackled the devil to the ground and bled every ounce of his rage into every punch. With every hit, I felt the magic of my chains weakening, letting me slowly weasel my wrists out of them and dart as fast as I could into a shadowy corner of the warehouse.
Before I could see more, however, a hand covered my eyes. I freaked out immediately, trying to hit whoever had touched me. They caught my flailing hand with ease.
"It's only me, Phoenix." I relaxed slightly. It was Damien. At least I didn't have to explain my reaction to him. He already knew. It irked me that I wasn't allowed to see, though. I didn't have to ask out loud though, because the youngest incubus answered my thoughts. "Sam wouldn't want you to see him like this." I could hear Sam yelling and roaring, mixed with the sounds of splintering bones and blood splattering on the floor. On second thought, maybe I didn't want to see this.
"That's enough, Sam!" I heard James shout. Were all of them here? My mind flashed back to the dream I'd had that involved Malix. Perhaps that dream had been some form of warning or premonition. Almost immediately after James called out, the punches stopped. I could hear Sam breathing heavily, having exerted tons of his energy.
"Malix is dead, and you've lost your glamour spell," Erik told him.
"Shut... Up..." Sam growled.
"Glamour spell?" I muttered to Damien.
"It's a spell that makes us look human." He answered me. That made a lot of sense. I seriously doubted the demon world was full of people who looked just like basic, boring humans. I heard glass clinking and Matthew speaking up.
"Here, Sam. You need to regain your glamour and you're all out of energy." Sam growled again. "Come on, drink up." Matthew pushed.
"...Fine. Whatever."
