It had been two years. With everything that had happened, I could barely believe so much time had gone by. Two years since my grandfather passed. Two years since I met the incubi.
Two years since Sam and I kissed for the first time. I felt myself blush at the thought of our first encounter. I hadn't been impressed by his recklessness and had hit him across the face, but despite the rocky beginning to our relationship, I grew to love him and there was no doubt in my mind that I would forever. He might have seemed intimidating to some people, but the rough exterior hid a gentle and caring man who wasn't afraid to show his affection for me. I felt warm every time I thought of him.

"Sam..." I muttered to myself. As his image appeared in my mind, I couldn't help but smile. Sam had joined the police force just over a year and a half ago and I had to admit, he used his handcuffs very well... But more on the innocent side of things, he would always come home extremely proud to have caught a criminal or have stopped a fight. Pride would swell in my own chest and I would shower him with praise until he became red in the face and sheepishly told me to shut up. He always did it with a smile, in the end. I knew he cherished me beyond anything else in the world and I loved him just the same, if not more. I was happy with him and I never wanted anything to happen or to come between us.

On one of Sam's days off though, something did surprise me. He had been out with his brothers that day, leaving me in the house by myself. I spent the entire day typing away at my PC, working on a writing assignment for college. I'd barely eaten, so when Sam came home, looking exhausted for whatever reason, we decided to order takeout and sat at the dining table together, eating in the silence of the room. I was both confused and mildly concerned. Sam was always very vocal at dinner, so I'd expected him to be talking nonstop about what he'd been doing with his brothers that day. To my complete surprise, he barely said a word to me and kept his eyes on his food.

I watched him curiously, noticing how he was acting. He was clenching and unclenching his free hand, biting his lip, his eyes were darting everywhere... He was very nervous about something and I couldn't figure out what. I finished the last bite of my dinner and felt concerned enough to ask.
"You okay, Sam?" I broke the silence, making my boyfriend jump at the sound of my voice. He glanced up, not meeting my eyes, and nodded hastily. Now I was suspicious, but I shook it off. If he didn't want to tell me, he likely had a good reason.
"Okay... You done with food?" I tried. He nodded and pushed his plate towards me. I grabbed it and wandered into the kitchen, scraping the leftover rice into the bin and sticking the plates in the sink.

I went back into the dining room to notice Sam wasn't in there anymore. Huh. I poked my head into the foyer, but Sam was nowhere to be seen. I frowned. What was with him today? I shook my head and sighed, heading back into the kitchen to wash up. It was my day, after all. I put some music on and found myself singing along quietly to some good old My Chemical Romance, a band that both Sam and I adored.

I felt a breeze wash over me suddenly and I spun around in time to see a fast-moving blur disappear into the dining room.
"Sam?" I called. I got no response and sighed, pausing the music. I walked out into the dining room and immediately noticed a sign hanging over the back of the chair closest to me. My curiosity was piqued and I furrowed my eyebrows, reading the sign as best I could. The messy handwriting gave away instantly that this was indeed Sam, but my confusion was slowly climbing.
"You have a surprise in our room..." I frowned. The hell? This wasn't like Sam at all. If ever Sam wanted to make love to me, he would imply it and leave it for me to accept or not. My mind could form no reasonable answers and I shook my head, sighing. Okay, sure.

I exited the dining room and made my way up the stairs, uncomfortably aware that I was being watched. I glanced around, rubbing my arms to get rid of the goosebumps.
"Sam, you know I don't like surprises..." I said into the silence. I got no reply. I passed my own bedroom and pushed open the door to the one I shared with Sam, not quite knowing what to expect. It wasn't what I was assuming, that's for sure.
