The minute I disappeared into the upstairs corridor, Sam rounded on Mika, all faux ignorance gone.
"What the fuck do you want?" He growled at her. Mika smirked.
"Well well, to think you're the one who figured it out." Pale purple light enveloped Mika for a few seconds, and when the glow faded, a certain succubus stood in her place. "I'm surprised your little human didn't realise."
"Phoenix doesn't know what you're capable of," Sam replied. "I'd rather keep it that way. Where's Mika?""Oh, she's in her room. She was very tired, it didn't take much to knock her out."
"What do you want with Phoenix? I wanna deal with you before you get the chance to cause them any more pain."
"Playing into their romantic fantasy, are you?" Diana sneered. "How cute." She breezed past Sam and into the foyer, head held high.
"Tell me why you're here before I rip your fucking throat out." Sam snarled. His muscles tensed, ready to fly at Diana. She swished her hair behind her and eyed him, unphased.
"My my, such a brute. Didn't your mother teach you how to treat a woman?"
"She isn't here, and frankly, you shouldn't be either."
"Ahh-! I'm hurt! Wounded, truly." Her voice was dripping with sarcasm. She perched herself on the stair railing beside Sam and he scoffed.
"Like I care, you crazy bitch."
"Like father, like son, hm?" She taunted him. Sam rounded on her, his eyes flashing furiously.
"Never compare me to that piece of shit. I am nothing like him.""You could've fooled me." Diana snapped. Her flirty façade was gone. "So brash, so blunt. You're the spitting image of your father. Is that your plan for the human upstairs? To chain them and never let them leave?"
A loud thud echoed and reverberated through the foyer. Sam's eyes were flashing gold, wanting so desperately to transform and give her the same treatment Malix had received. Diana choked, pinned by her neck against the wall as Sam stared her down threateningly.
"Shut your fucking mouth..." Sam glowered.
"Struck a nerve, did I?" Diana smirked. Despite the lack of oxygen, she maintained her cool demeanour. "That's the only reason a Demon of Lilith would keep a human around. As a sex toy~"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!!" Sam squeezed harder on her neck but still, she stayed amicable.
"You cannot be with the human, Aomaris." The succubus hissed. "They will never truly love you. They are far too broken to ever love someone and you know it." Sam growled and released her, letting her crumble to the floor. Diana stood and looked him up and down with an almost sympathetic smile.Upstairs, I was digging through my bags, looking for clothes that I could just laze around the house in. I didn't have a lot of clothes, but it was always difficult to find stuff that was legitimately comfortable. As I undressed after making sure to pull my curtains closed, a loud thud sounded downstairs. I snorted, assuming it was Matthew returning home and having run into Sam. They had a weird ability to piss each other off very easily. Their personalities did contrast massively, to be fair, but for all of their teasing and annoying each other, it never really seemed that serious, so I brushed it off and refocused on my bags. Even just thinking about unpacking and organising everything was making me feel tired. Instead, I flopped on my bed with my phone and resolved to browse through Reddit until either Sam came upstairs or I was called for dinner. I was open to either option; I hadn't eaten a lot that day, despite having several opportunities to eat while I was in town with Sam.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!!" I heard Sam roar from downstairs. I frowned. I'd only ever heard Sam yell that angrily at one of his brothers once - when he was bandaging my arm after I'd cut it on the day of the housewarming party. Fighting against my instinctive desire to stay away from whatever the conflict was, something was nagging at the back of my brain. Something was telling me that I needed to check on Sam. Reluctantly, I got up and left my room, staying as quiet as possible as I tiptoed down the corridor towards the stairway landing. Something about the silence seemed off. It was far too quiet to be natural. The sound of every step I took felt like it was being magnified tenfold. My heart was beating uncomfortably loudly in my ears. It was so eerily silent, I could hear myself blinking. I couldn't hear Sam, his brothers, Mika... But I could see Sam. As I nervously peeked around the archway into the foyer, I saw him. I saw something that brought out memories of Malix that I'd already tried to repress. Sam pinning Diana to the wall by her throat. As I stared, I could almost begin to see Malix where Sam stood. The evil grin, the malicious cackling, the nausea-inducing blood that covered his clothes and skin...
