As all of us headed back to Lilith Castle, we were all heavy of heart, unable to forget that two of our number were lost forever. Diana had been the face of the rebellion and even though I'd thoroughly hated her at times, I missed her and it weighed on me so much that she was dead. Saero - her loyal guard and faithful to the end - had gone with her, choosing to end his own life rather than continue without the woman he was so clearly in love with.

Sam could sense my grief but knew there was nothing he could do. In time, I would recover as I learned that there was nothing I could do to bring them back. The dead were the dead and to try and disturb that would upend the entire balance of the universe. Even as we arrived in the war room and everyone began to depart to their separate rooms for the night, my mind began to clear slightly, remembering how at peace Diana was with her fate. It was only then I remembered her mention of Damien.

Damien stopped on his way out of the door, sensing that his name had entered my thoughts. As he gazed at me, I could see curiosity, excitement and caution creeping onto his face all at once.
"I've sensed since I met you that you never liked being human." He began quietly. "Given the chance, would you truly become a demon of Lilith?" I gazed at him curiously.
"Honestly? Yeah, I would. Humans are just so... awful. They're tyrannical, destructive, oppressive beings and I feel ashamed to claim myself as one of them." Damien smiled slightly.
"Then I may have a solution for both of us."

"I have despised the demon in me for longer than I can remember. I am in a very similar situation to you; I would give anything to be human." I gazed blankly at him.
"Damien, where is this going?" I asked.
"I've spoken with Diana about this, and she told me of a ritual that can be performed. It's essentially a switch of essences, of your very being." I frowned slightly, unnerved.
"So... I'd be in your body and you'd be in mine?" Damien chuckled softly at my reaction.
"Not at all. The part of me that makes me a demon would leave my soul, and your humanity would leave you. They would switch painlessly. I would become human and you a demon."

"That... doesn't sound bad at all, actually. Would I have your powers and horns?" I asked curiously. Damien shrugged slightly.
"That I do not know. I have never once known two incubi or succubi to have the same powers, but if you have my demonic soul, then I do not know." I nodded slowly, deliberating. This really was the perfect solution to a complicated situation. Even my proficiency in overthinking couldn't come up with a way this could go wrong.

"Okay, I'm in." Damien grinned at me, the most excited I'd ever seen him. "But I don't want Sam to know. I wanna surprise him." Damien nodded and we got to work. Surprisingly, it was a fairly simple ritual and apparently, he and Diana had gathered most of the ingredients before the final battle happened.
"Do we need anyone to perform the ritual?" I asked him. Damien shook his head.
"No. Once everything is set up and we are stood in the correct positions, the ritual will perform itself."

Finally, everything was ready and set out on the floor of the war room, where there was ample space. Damien closed his eyes, letting his glamour fade away and he entered his demon form. He and I locked eyes with each other, both radiating nerves and apprehensive excitement.
"Are you ready?" Damien asked me. I nodded and together, we stepped into the ritual circle.

The circle lit up white, lighting the room and illuminating Damien's ecstatic face. After so many years, he was finally getting what he wanted. A turquoise line snaked from the centre of my chest and connected to Damien, who gasped slightly as it hit him. A thin black line did the same from him, wrapping itself around the turquoise as it touched my chest. I watched in absolute amazement as the black horns began to slowly fade from Damien's head, and his eyes lit up in excitement as he pointed at my head. I lifted my hands and felt horns curling down from my own head. Both of us grinned at each other as the transformations continued. His incubus taint began to slough away, his human clothes slowly covering his body instead. My clothes vanished and were replaced by the taint, brilliantly turquoise. The lines connecting us suddenly glowed bright white, before fading from existence. The ritual circle faded as well, leaving nothing but the plain wooden floor.
