*modern day*

Max and Lucas were just hanging out in his car in an empty parking lot. It was late and nothing was open.

Lucas's new car had a sunroof, so once it started to downpour, they both reclined their seats to watch the rain come down.

Their hands were intertwined, and Lucas was caressing the back of her hand with his thumb. It was peaceful, and the conversations just started flowing.

"Has your mom been talking about college?" Lucas asked softly.

"Oh yeah. She asks all these questions like what I want to do, where I wanna go, and I don't have an answer for any of those questions." Max stared blankly at the window above.

"We're going into junior year. You've still got some time," Lucas was thankful he had an idea about his future.

"Not much. It's just..so overwhelming like every time someone asks me about it, I just want to cry." A slight squeeze from his hand reminded her that Lucas would always be there for her.

"A Different Age" by Current Joys began playing quietly.

"God, I love this song," Max admits, and Lucas agrees. The song just made sense in their minds, and they felt a peaceful emptiness while listening to it.

Lucas and Max began to sing along softly. If you close your eyes while listening to music, it feels a lot heavier. Max remembered Lucas telling her that, and he was right. It hurts so much more.

Max looked over at Lucas, and his eyes were already shut, so she did the same.

"And I wish I could change
But I'll probably just stay the same."

The rawness in their voices while singing those lyrics made life very real and scary.

The couple loved how they could be hurting in front of each other. A lot of the time, they take the other in their arms and tell each other that everything will be okay. That normally happens when outside events cause them trauma.

This, the singing, the silence, the rain, was therapy for their mental struggles. There are some things that will never be okay and they've learned to embrace them. Sometimes the hurt is good. It reminds them they can still feel.

Max and Lucas understand each other a lot through music. It can make you feel all the emotions. That's all they needed sometimes.

A good song to scream to, one to cry to, one that brings out a huge smile, one that makes you feel empty, and one that makes you feel understood, heard, and seen.

There was no bullshit when it came to music for Lucas and Max. They knew each other favorites, the hated songs, and the ones that bring out all the emotions.

"Max?"

"Hm."

"I want you in my life...always." His voice was wary like he was a little afraid of her response.

"I'll always be by your side Stalker," She reassured him, squeezing his hand.

I have no clue if that made any sense. I tried to write how this song makes me feel lol. I might delete this in the morning idk.
