It was Friday night which meant the party had yet another sleepover. They've had one every Friday throughout the summer. Typically, the sleepovers were held at the Wheeler's house, which Ted loved. However, Steve's parents were out of town, and Dustin was incredibly gifted in persuading.

"Alright, shitbirds, I'm going to bed. There's food and drinks in the kitchen, just please don't break anything," Steve pleaded to the six teenagers.

"Yeah, okay, mom," Dustin teased.

Surprisingly, they were all able to agree on a movie. It didn't take long for El and Will to fall asleep. Lucas, Max, and Dustin sprung into action as soon as Mike's eyes shut. The three had planned to draw on Mike's face with markers.

Mike's face quickly became covered in black marker. He was going to have a fun morning.

Not too long after that, Dustin crashed from his sugar rush. Lucas fell asleep on the couch across from him.

Max couldn't sleep. There were too many thoughts rushing through her mind. She decided she needed some fresh air, so she made her way to the lounge chairs by the pool.

The stars were out. They were as bright as ever and incredibly easy to see tonight. A smile grew on the redhead's freckled face as she thought about the simplicity of the sky. It would always be there, no matter what. Even the stars are destined to appear, and she found comfort in that.

"Can't sleep?" The voice startled her, making her jump.

"Jesus, Lucas. You scared the shit out of me." He laughed and sat down next to her.

"What are you thinking about?" It was no surprise Max's mind worked real hard against her.

"Nothing," She insisted. "No, but seriously, for once, I can look at the stars and not be bombarded by thoughts."

Lucas took a minute to study her face. He could tell she wasn't lying. There was no crease between her eyebrows and no vein running vertically from her ear to her forehead. She was calm, at peace even.

"Well, we should probably get to bed," Max suggested, getting up.

"I know you're not tired," Lucas wasn't that stupid. Max would end up staring at the ceiling for another 2 hours before she fell asleep.

An idea ran through Lucas's head, and Max knew what it was as soon as he stood up with a smirk.

"Don't you dare Stalker," She laughed while slowly backing away from him.

Lucas couldn't help but laugh as he chased her around the pool. The boy quickly caught up to her and tackled her into the pool.

They came up for air and realized they were remarkably close to one another. The teenager's hearts were racing a million miles a minute as they looked at each other.

"Screw you," Max teased with the widest grin on her face.

"Screw me?" He trifled as their faces grew closer together. They were practically breathing the same air now.

"Yeah, screw you," She whispered and hesitated before connecting their lips.

Max clung to his shoulders as the kiss grew deeper and deeper. They may have kissed a few times before, but it was nothing like this. The tension between the two had been building for so long that it was bound to explode soon. At this moment, it was bursting.

She would never admit it, but she folded the moment his hands grasped her waist. The gentle squeeze reminded her that he would never be just a friend. Max's feelings for him were always clear when everything else in her life got messy.

Having her hands wrapped around his neck, urging him to be close to her, was the only thing Lucas had wanted for the past few months. Max's touch reassured his feeling for her. There was never a time Lucas didn't want to be with her. The thought of her consumed his mind.

The kiss felt never ending as both of them clung to each other in the middle of the pool.

"Hey! Go get dry clothes on, and get to bed. It's almost 2 a.m.!" Steve yelled from the window overlooking the pool, interrupting them.

Max's face burned up from embarrassment. They begrudgingly got out of the pool and took turns changing in the bathroom.

Lucas came out of the bathroom to see Max on the pull-out couch.

"You can-uh-you can sleep next to me if you want. I know Will kicks in his sleep," She nervously offered. He returned a smile and climbed under the blanket next to her.

"I've missed you," Lucas admitted, staring at the back of her wet hair.

"I missed you too," She whispered.

Lucas felt her grab his hand and guide it to her waist. He was surprised but held onto her tightly that night.

I hope you liked this one-shot! I've been slacking on suggestions but sometimes they just don't speak to me yk? I hope you have a great weekend!
