Lumax One Shots

"Come on. It will be fun!" El begged Max. "Plus, Mike and I know someone for you!"

Max groaned at the thought of dating. El had been imploring Max to get into the dating world since they got out of college, but she wouldn't budge. She didn't necessarily dislike the idea of dating, though it's hard to find a decent guy these days. 

"Fine. I'll come to your bonfire, but if you even think about pushing me to be with a guy, I will leave," The redhead threatened. 

El practically screeched at the news of her best friend coming. "Be there at 6!" And with that, El left to get her house ready for guests. 

Lucas was getting ready to leave his apartment when Mike called him. 

"Dude, she's coming tonight!" Mike cheered.

"What? Who are you talking about?" Lucas's face scrunched in confusion. 

"You know how El and I have been trying to set you up with one of her friends from college? Well, she's coming! It's your perfect opportunity."

Lucas wasn't opposed to dating. He simply couldn't find someone worth his time and never spent much time trying to find someone. 

"We'll see, man. I just want to have a good time with my friends tonight."

"Jesus, you are just as stubborn as her," Mike mentally compared the two.  

"Yeah, whatever. I'm leaving now, so I'll be over in 20."

"You better hurry. She just pulled into the driveway," Mike snickered. 

Lucas rolled his eyes and hung up. 

Max drove onto the gravel driveway and saw a few people already there. She parked in the grass to the right as El instructed. The redhead observed her surroundings. There were plenty of chairs surrounding the fire pit, and the tailgate to Mike's truck provided seating as well.

The sun quickly began its descent as a few more cars rolled up. 

"Max, you need a drink," Mike stated bluntly. 

"Tell me about it," She remarked and followed him to the drink table. Max allowed him to make her a drink and went to sit on the tailgate near the fire. There were a few people she knew, and they struck up conversations. She made sure to refill her drink throughout the night. 

When Lucas arrived, he was given a red solo cup. El had told him where the drinks and food were located. Then, he was left by his lonesome. After surveying the group of people, he couldn't help but notice a girl sitting alone on the tailgate. Her legs were swinging by the Indiana license plate, and he was looking for her boyfriend. There is no way she doesn't have one. 

The radio was blasting, making it impossible to hear some people, but Max didn't mind. That was until someone sat next to her. Max did her best to make out their facial features with only light from the bonfire. It didn't help that she had already downed three drinks.

"I don't know you." Max pointed out to the stranger next to her. 

"Correct," Lucas didn't know if she was asking him a question or if it was a statement. 

"Well then, what's your name, mystery boy?"

"Lucas, and you?" He talked loudly so she could hear him over the music. 

"Max," She smiled. Her face was illuminated by the fire, making her hair an unbelievable golden-red shade. For some reason, he felt his stomach become giddy when looking into her eyes. 

They had begun talking, and the conversation was flowing so naturally. The two were so deep in conversation that they didn't notice Mike and El staring at them. 

"Did you introduce them to each other?" Mike whispered to El.

"No, I thought you did?"

"They must've found each other themselves," He smirked and took a sip of his drink. 

El could tell Max was having a good time with Lucas, which comforted her. 

"So, how do you know Mike and El?" Lucas was prepared to uncover the mystery that was Max. 

"El and I were roommates in college, and you know, where there is El, there's Mike," She laughed, recalling memories from the years prior. "What about you? How did you meet them, Lucas?" Max asked, leaning against the side of the truck. The redhead brought one leg up to rest her arm while the other leg was dangling off the side of the truck bed. There was something about the way she said his name that he liked. 

"Well, I met Mike back in...what was it? The first grade, maybe, and El in middle school."

"Holy shit. And you've been friends ever since? How have you dealt with Mike for that long?" 

The two laughed at Max's comment, and before Lucas had time to ask another question, she jumped up and cut him off. 

"This is my song! I've been waiting for it to come on all night!" Max exclaimed. "Come here. I want to dance!" Lucas didn't need to be told twice to dance with someone as captivating as Max. 

She grabbed his hand, and they began to spin each other around the backyard. It felt like they were teenagers again. Both of them danced around drunkenly. They didn't stop until the song faded out, and Max brought her face close to his and kissed him. He hadn't expected it but didn't want it to end. Max pulled away shocked and embarrassed she just kissed a stranger. 

"I am so sorry," She admitted. 

"Don't be sorry," He murmured. "Let's play that song again!" Lucas laughed out a little louder. 

Max blushed as he admitted he liked the kiss. 

El saw everything go down and ran to grab Mike. 

"You guys met!" El ran towards them with Mike in tow. 

"Wait, is this-"

"YES!" El yelled out of excitement. "I've been trying to set you guys up for ages!"

Max and Lucas looked at each other and began laughing. If they knew this was who they were being set up with, they would've agreed to meet a lot sooner. 

"You guys enjoy each other," Mike winked and pulled El away with him. 

Max and Lucas couldn't help but feel flustered at Mike's comment. 

"So, uh, I'd like to get to know you better..." Lucas suggested turning towards her. 

"I think I can make that happen," She teased. 

"Yeah?" He rose an eyebrow in curiosity. 

"Yeah." Max gave him that smile that filled him with great uncertainty. The kind that makes you excited for what comes next. 

Okay, so @RoyalX08 asked me to write one where Mike and El set them up. However, I was listening to "Play It Again" by Luke Bryan (country I know :| ) and thought I could mix the two. I hope you liked it!! I start school on the 18th and I'm not done with summer reading lol. I hope you guys have a great week!!
