"Mike, if you don't hurry your ass up, we're gonna miss the fireworks!" Max screams from across the lawn.

All five of them took a trip up to Mike's family's lakehouse for the 4th of July weekend. The best part is the fireworks. At dusk on the fourth, everyone lights red flares, so the entire lake is outlined with red. Additionally, multiple towns light fireworks, and most people take their boats out to look at them. The party was getting ready to do precisely that.

"I was getting the boat keys!" He yelled back as he began walking on the dock.

Max rolled her eyes and settled back into Lucas's arms. Throughout the past few days, everyone has seemed to claim their spot on the pontoon boat. Dustin and Will took the two front loungers, El sitting in the seat next to the captain's chair, Mike in the captain's chair, and Max and Lucas on the back lounger.

"We have 15 minutes till the fireworks start; we'll be fine," Lucas assures her.

"I know, but these bugs are already starting to attack me," Max complains as she puts on her hoodie. The two shared a blanket to not only stay warm but to avoid bug bites on their legs.

Mike finally made his way onto the boat and backed out of the lift. As they began to drive through the lake, Lucas brought to Mike's attention that the backlight wasn't on.

"One second, is it on now?" Mike asked while flipping a switch.

"Nope," Lucas stared up at the small circular light pole.

"Now?"

"No."

"How about now?" Mike asks again, flipping the same switch.

"Negative." Since they had their front lights on, it wasn't too big of a deal, but still important since it was dark outside. "It's on!" Lucas cheered, and they continued on their way.

Dustin got on the boat's aux and started playing "patriotic" music, as he says. The old-time tune that talks about how good it is to be an American citizen. Every song contained the same three words: freedom, beer, and U.S.A.

The atmosphere was lively until the boat suddenly emitted a beeping sound. Lucas became worried and turned to Mike for an explanation. Mike reassured him that it was just seaweed caught in the propeller causing the beeping, and he proceeded to put the boat in reverse while revving the engine to clear the seaweed, but the beeping didn't stop.

Max could sense Lucas's tension and concern and reached out to comfort him. She reassures him with a gentle touch on his arm. Lucas's anxiety has been extremely high lately, and Max wishes she could do more to support him.

Mike decides to turn off the boat and restart it. Luckily, there was no longer the beeping sound. The silence put Lucas's mind to ease, and he settled back down into his seat with Max.

"5 minutes until fireworks," Max smiles at her boyfriend.

"You and your fireworks." Lucas teases her with a smile on his face.

"They're pretty," She defends.

"Mhmm, what's your favorite?"

Max takes a second to think about all the fireworks she's seen, "you know the gold ones that shoot up and then shimmer all the way back down?" Lucas nods his head at her. "Those."

"I like those too." As she planted a kiss on his cheek, the beeping noise started up again.

She attempted to grab Lucas' attention. "Lucas," she called out. "Hey, look at me," he redirected his attention towards her. "It's only the seaweed."
