Max POV

Somehow during freshman year, my dorky boyfriend became muscular, athletic, and strong. Lucas was never really into sports but once high school hit he started playing football and basketball. Mr. Sinclair was thrilled about it too. Of course, freshman year he obviously wasn't the best on the team but he practiced. A lot. Now we're seniors and he's been playing varsity football since sophomore year. He is definitely the best on the field. Tonight is the last Friday night home game. That also means that it's Lucas's last game he'd play in high school and that made him nervous. Especially because Hawkins High made it into the championship and this game determines whether they get 1st place or not.

Nobody's POV

"What if I mess up or... or I let the team down," he stuttered laying down on Max's bed.
"Lucas stop. You'll do great you always do! You're one of the best players on that field don't doubt yourself." Max says encouragingly. He just smiles at her and admired how much she's grown over the years. Not only physically but mentally as well.
"Plus the party, your parents, Erica, and I will all be cheering you on in the stands."
"I love you. I truly wouldn't be here without you. You know that right?"
"Oh, I know. Remember freshman year. We spent hours practicing together. You couldn't even catch a damn ball," she teased laughing at the memory.
"Hey hey hey in my defense your passes kinda sucked."
"They did not! I was way better than mike."
"That's true."
"Well looks like you've got to get ready for a game," Max says looking at her clock.
"Oh yeah, I gotta go. See you there?" Lucas says standing up and getting ready to leave.
"Yup!" She cheered giving him a peck on the lips before he left.

2-hour time jump

It was now 6:30 the game started at 7 so El and Max were getting ready before the boys picked them up. Lucas has been at the field warming up for the past hour or so.
"Can you pass the mascara?" El says while curling her eyelashes.
"Yeah one sec," Max says while she puts on her shoes.
"Here."
"Thank you. So did you tell Lucas about the scout coming to watch him?"
"No. He was already freaking out and I didn't want to make him more nervous."
"That makes sense," El says as they heard a honk outside Max's house. The boys were here to pick them up for the game. They grabbed their signs and ran out the door.

Once they got into the stands they had about 10 minutes till the game started. So, Max snuck down into the locker room like she did before every game. Normally, the coach would never allow this but Max would give Lucas pep talks and hype him up. Lucas played better when Max gave him those talks and the coach noticed that so he always let it slide. They always met in the same corner of the locker room so when Max opened the door and saw her nervous boyfriend standing there waiting for her it melted her heart. She usually had to find him to let him know she was there to talk to him. But this time he was waiting for her.
"You ready?" Max asked coming up behind him.
"Uhh I guess," he stuttered. Max looked down at his shaky hands and grabbed them.
"Hey, you'll do great! You're going to go out there and show the other team who's boss! You can beat that team out there Lucas. I know you can you've done it before. So go out there with your team and kick-ass like you always do!" Max encouraged as she looked him in the eyes.
"Yes ma'am!" Lucas says grabbing her face in his hands and giving her a short kiss before heading out.
"Make me proud stalker!" Max shouted as the team left the locker room.
"Always," Lucas yelled back blowing a kiss.

Max made her way back up to the stands as the announcer welcomed the teams. They came running out and everyone was cheering. The party liked to be as close to the field as possible so they could tell who is who.
"You hype him up?" Dustin asked as Max walked towards them.
"I sure hope so. He's totally bugging."
"I don't blame him. If a college scout came to watch me at my championship game I'd pass out," Mike turned around glancing at the scout who he just talked about.
"Uh yeah... so I didn't tell him about that," Max looked at the boys hoping they wouldn't get mad.
"WHAT?" Dustin and Mike said turning their heads to Max.
"Lucas does well under pressure to a certain extent. I feel like with everything else going on he just needed to play without worrying about someone important watching him," Max explained looking at her boyfriend as he was getting ready to start the game.
"Max is right. Plus it's his last high school game he should just have fun," Will said agreeing with the redhead.
"Look it's starting!" El cheered redirecting everyone's eyes to the field.

The first half blew by really quick and Lucas was doing amazing. Hawkins High was dominating the other team. Thanks to Lucas and his 3 touchdowns. Max was able to watch most of the game so far but since she and Dustin are the only ones who understand football they usually have a lot of explaining to do. When the third quarter came around the other team was getting their act together and playing tougher. Lucas could tell Max knew they were upping their game. She gave him a reassuring nod which he returned. That was their signal. They never talked about what it meant but they knew. She was telling him to play his heart out and give it his all. The third quarter ended and the other team was only 6 points behind.
"This game is definitely going to be a nail bitter," Will pointed out noticing the score.
"Lucas is not going to be happy if they lose," Mike said turning to Max knowing that she was the only one who could deal with an angry Lucas.
"Way to look on the bright side of things Wheeler," Max replied slapping the back of his head playfully.

During the 4th quarter, the other team slowly made their way ahead. 1 more touchdown was all Hawkins High needed to win the championship. There are 2 minutes on the clock and the other team had the ball. They were going for another touchdown. There is no way Hawkins could win if they made this touchdown. All of a sudden, BAM. Troy body checks the other team member who had the ball.

One minute left. One minute for one more touchdown. Hawkins ball. Lucas was freaking out. Mainly because he is the one who the team needed to get the ball to. Once the ball the thrown Lucas sprinted down the field. His teammate threw the ball to him and he caught it. Now, this was the hard part. Lucas had to maneuver his way around the other team. People were being tackled left and right trying to help Lucas get that touchdown. Everyone else was behind him except one. Of course, it was the biggest guy the other team had. He was at least 3 times Lucas's size.
"Shit," Max whispered under her breath watching her boyfriend run straight towards this huge dude. The whole crowd watched as Lucas ran as fast as he could. Lucas knew what he had to do. He faked to the left and ran right under the guy's right arm. Everyone in the stand gasped as Lucas only had a few more yards to go. 5 seconds left and Lucas lunged his body over the end zone. Getting those 2 extra points Hawkins High needed to win. The crowd went wild! As soon as Lucas stood up he was engulfed in a huge group of his teammates cheering him on. They did it. Hawkins High just won their first championship game in 50 years. Everyone started running out to the field to congratulate the players.

"Let's go!!" Max said running down the stairs to go hug her boyfriend. She got out to the field and saw Lucas she gave him the biggest smile. Max ran towards him and jumped in his arms. Wrapping her legs around his waist she gave him the best hug.
"Am I so proud of you," Max said looking in his eyes with her hands taking off his helmet. She threw it on the ground and ran her hands through his hair. While his hands were holding her waist they connected their lips. Everyone started cheering when they saw the young couple kiss. Confetti cannons went off interrupting Max and Lucas's moment. They watched their school colors cover the field in awe. Soon enough Max jumped out of his arms knowing that other people wanted to congratulate him. It must've been 30 minutes until Lucas was able to go into the locker room and change. He was stopped by a man on his way out of the locker room.
"Lucas Sinclair?"
"Yes sir," Lucas replied not knowing who was asking.
"My name is David Miller and I'm a scout from Ohio State University. We've taken great interest in you. With your stats and the game you just played we would love to offer you a scholarship," David said as Lucas' eyes went wide. He's wanted to go to OSU since he was a kid and now they have one of the best football programs. David laughed watching Lucas's reaction.
"Really? Ohio State University wants to give ME a scholarship?"
"Yes, yes we do," David laughed.
"Now I know you probably have a ton of other offers so here is all of the information and I hope you consider joining us next fall," David says handing Lucas a packet while giving him a handshake goodbye. Lucas stood there for a second not being able to comprehend what just happened. He looked up and saw Max looking at him with a smirk from afar. He started walking towards her and the party while still amazed at what just happened.
"Did you have something to do with this?" Lucas asked Max while pointing to the packet he was given.
"Depends what did he say?"
"He gave me a scholarship to OSU." The whole party cheered and gave him hugs congratulating him.
"What are we waiting for! Let's go celebrate!!!" Dustin cheered making everyone laugh.

I don't have the most knowledge on football so pls don't get mad if I used the wrong terms or something. I hope you guys enjoy it! Let me know if I should do a part two!
