Chapter 38: Help!

PAIGES POV
I walk into the garage with Ralph, everybody is already there.
"Go say hi to Walter." I tell Ralph who runs over to Walter. I walk over to Meghan who is reading a Phycology text book.
"How are you doing?" I ask her scaring her a bit.
"I'm fine." She responds quietly without looking up from her book.
"How have these guys been treating?" I ask pulling over a chair and sitting next to her.
"Well Happy came up and talked to me last night, she gave me tips, pointers or whatever. It's seems to be that you and Happy are the only ones who give a crap. The boys are still completely against it." She tells me still looking at her book.
"They are protecting you." I tell her softly.
"Well it's to late I'm already pregnant. I just need them to support me." She says getting up to get a ginger ale from the fridge. I get up and walk over to Walter, Sylvester, Toby and Cabe who are all standing by the Walters car, which is in the middle of the garage, talking about go knows what. Happy is at the other end of the garage at her work station making some kind of invention of hers.
"I'm need to talk to all of you." I tell the boys. Toby goes to walk away and I grab his sleeve.
"ALL of you." I say pulling him back to where he was standing.
"Is this about Meghan because..." Walter says but I cut him off.
"Yes it's about Meghan and no I don't want to hear you opinion." I tell them.
"She is really scared and she really needs each of you, you each mean something to her. Cabe your the father she never had, Toby her big brother who she can talk to about anything, Walter her best friend, and Sylvester the quite slightly older brother." I continue.
"We just want what's best for her we are very protective." Walter says looking at me.
"You think what's best for her is to not talk to her and not give a crap? She doesn't need protection any more, she needs support." I tell them, my voice getting angry.
"We think what would have been best for her is if she had never gotten pregnant in the first place." Cabe says.
"You think she had a choice?" I say yelling now.
"We thought she was smarter." Walter says. Everybody goes silent and we turn around to see Meghan standing there with tears in her eyes.
"Meghan we didn't... " I start but get cut if my her running out of the garage and getting into her jeep. I run after her, she didn't start the car just sits in it for a while. I open the door and get in.
"Meghan we didn't mean..." Say but get cut off again.
"Please don't." She says looking down. I could see the tears running down her cheeks.
"I'm a freakin idiot Paige this is all my fault." She says trying to keep her voice steady.
"What are you talking about? You are extraordinarily intelligent and none of this is your fault." I tell her trying to move her hair out of her face but she pushes me away.
"Paige I'm and so stupid they said it themselves. Now you guys are all fighting and the boys are so freakin mad at me." She responds. We walk back into the garage.
"We have a case. Can we just put this behind us for now?" Cabe says.
"I don't know can you?" Meghan responds. We get into the van, first Walter gets in the drivers seat, then I get into the passengers seat, next Sylvester gets in the middle seat, Cabe gets into the other middle seat and Toby gets in the back.
"You guys are being jack asses, work on it." I say before the girls get into the car. Then Meghan and Happy get into the back with Toby. Toby sits by the window on the left and Meghan sits by the window to the right with Happy in the middle.
"Are you ok Meghan?" I ask looking back at her.
"I'm fine." She responds even though you could see the sadness in her eyes. When we get there we all get out of the van and walk into a big abandoned building, that looks like it's falling apart.
"So what is the case anyway?" Meghan asks Cabe.
"Well there so somebody locked in one of the rooms in here." He responds.
"Isn't that a job for the fire department?" I ask looking at Cabe.
"Well yes but we believe that somebody put them here and if that's the case then we are the ones who need to be the ones to find him." He responds. The team nods. We walk over to a closet that looks locked. We get Happy to trick the lock, it doesn't take her long. When we open the door my eyes get wide and so do the rest of the teams. There is a dead man in the middle of the floor.
"That's suppose to be there." Toby says.
"Thanks for the observation Doc." Happy says sarcastically. Cabe takes pictures of he body and send them to homeland headquarters where they will tell us who the man is and possibly how he died.
"Ok the head of homeland will be over in an hour to pick him up. Let's go upstairs and see if anyone is up there." He tells us we all start walking towards the stairs but are stopped in our tracks.
"Does anybody else smell smoke?" Meghan asks looking around.
"I smell it too." Happy agrees.
"Maybe it's just a pregnancy thing." Cabe says looking at Happy and Meghan. Happy and Meghan's face get beet red with anger.
"What is your freakin problem?" Meghan asks almost shouting.
"My problem, is that..." Cabe gets cut off when Meghan shouts
"Run up the stairs!"
"What?"
"Don't ask questions just freakin do it!" She shouts and we all run towards the stairs except for Cabe. Meghan runs over and grabs Cabes arm and pushes him slightly. When we get there we look back at where Meghan was standing and see that there is a fire right behind where Cabe was standing.
"You saved my life." He says quietly slightly out of breath.
"Yeah whatever. Just go up the stairs." Meghan tells us, we do as told. I'm last and when I'm running up the stairs I trick and fall, I don't fall down the stairs just trip and fall on the step. I get up and continue up the stairs, I feel a shake and look down. The stairs behind me are crumbling I try to go faster. I feel the stairs falling under my feet, Walter extends his arm for me to take. I grab his hand and jump up to the stable platform above the stairs. Walter takes me into his embrace and holds onto me tightly. We watch the stairs fall, He then let's me go but doesn't let go of my hand.
"That was to close for my liking." Sylvester says looking at the crumbled stairs beneath us. We watch as the rubble gets engulfed in flames.
"What are we going to do?" I ask Walter.
"Window!" He shouts we walk over to the window, he tries to open it but it's locked. Walter try's to unlock it with a paper clip but it doesn't work. I hear Meghan cough from the smoke. Happy walks over and picks up a hammer off the floor. She pushes Walter to the side and hits it with the hammer making the lock fall off.
"That's how you handle that." She says opening the window.
"It's to far to jump from." Sylvester says looking down.
"I've got and idea." Meghan pushes them out of the way. She goes through the window and grabs on to a pipe that runs along the outside of the building. She swings and and grabs on to the other pipe, she does and until she gets to the ground.
"Ok who's next?" She asks from the ground. We all look at her in disbelief.
"Oh my god." Toby says.
"She's pregnant." I say thinking about how she just did that.
"She's a bad ass." Happy says.
"Yeah like you." Toby says looking at Happy's.
"I'll go next." Walter says he does what Meghan does but not as smooth as Meghan does it. Around the middle he slips and his hand comes off the pipe he almost falls off but us able to regain strength and grabs the pipe again.
"Careful." Meghan shouts. We go one by one and are able to get to the ground. We get to the van and drive back to the garage. The man who started the fire to attempt to kill us died in the fire. The irony there is over whelming. I call everybody to the kitchen.
"Yes?" Everybody says walking into the kitchen.
"Make up." I demand.
"I'm sorry Meghan we were all being jerks. We just wanted to protect you, and make sure you didn't make a mistake. We will support you no matter what you do and you are one of the most intelligent people I know, that's why your apart of this team. We're sorry." Walter says.
"We're sorry Meghan." Cabe, Toby and Sylvester say in unison.
"That was the cheesiest thing, but I forgive you. Thank you for supporting me, I'm gonna need it." Meghan responds. They give her each a hug.
"And don't be scared your going to be a great mom." Walter says. Meghan takes a deep breath.
"Thank you." After that they all go back to their own separate projects. Toby goes to flirt with Happy, Cabe goes to see that the head of homeland said about the case today, Sylvester goes to work on one of his math equations, Walter goes to work on his rocket, Happy is working on one of her engines {and flirt with Toby} and I go to pick up Ralph. We progressed today, and I have an idea for tomorrow.
