Chapter 66: You can bet on it

(1 week later)
WALTERS POV
I get up bright and early. I walk down from my bedroom and to the garage living room. Everybody is already there, I'm surprised I'm usually first one. Meghan's waiting by the door with her olive green backpack.
"What are you waiting for?" I ask her curiously.
"Shawn, I have my first ultra sound today." She responds smiling, I think we've all missed that smile. Today Meghan is 7 months pregnant, she's getting really big and now is also using Paige's old shirt (outfit in media). Today is also the day Shawn leaves for the military. Shawn shows up at the door a few moments later.
"Hey Meg! Are you ready?" He asks her, hugging her and picking her up at the same time.
"I'm ready if you are." She says biting her bottom lip nervously and laying her head on his chest. They walk out hand in hand.
"Anybody want to bet on what sex the baby is?" Toby asks, Happy glares at him.
"Did you bet on what gender our baby was?" Happy asks, her voice thick with annoyance.
"Nooo." He responds drawing out the O.
"I'll bet." I respond, I'm feeling risky today, so why not?
"I bet $50 that it's a girl." Toby says.
"I bet $50 it's a boy." We shake on it and wait patiently for Meghan and Shawn to return. We figure it will take a few hours so we work on our projects until they come back. I have to say my rocket is coming along nicely, so is Happy's engine. I'm not sure what Paige is doing but she's writing something down in a red notebook, Sly is calculating the odds of the child being a boy over a girl and Toby is reading, like usual. Toby decides to put on some music so he puts on 'Rock you like a Hurricane' by The Scorpions working his way to 'Anywhere but Here' by Mayday Parade. About 2 hours later we hear the door click and Meghan walks in, she's smiling. 'Anywhere but Here' is playing when she walks in.
"Oh my god I love this song!" Meghan says happily.
"So what is it?" Paige asks excitedly.
"It's a girl! We're going to name her Bella after my mother." Meghan responds showing a bit of excitement.
"Ha! Pay up." Toby says to me.
"You bet on what sex my baby is?" Meghan asks rolling her eyes.
"Yep and I won." Toby says smiling. Meghan laughs and walks over to the couch. She is finally out of her wheel chair, but since it still hurts to walk, she is on a lot of medication. She sits there peacefully and takes one of her phycology books off the table and reads is quietly.
"What time are you leaving?" Meghan asks Shawn, who is sitting next to her.
"Six I think." He responds taking her hand.
"So we have 2 hours, I'm going to miss you so much." Meghan responds.
"I'm going to miss you too." He responds kissing her on the lips.
"I'm going to get a drink, want anything?" Shawn asks in a sweet tone.
"No thanks." Meghan responds. Shawn gets up to get a drink from the fridge, I decide to get one too and go over to the fridge.
"Hey Shawn come here." Meghan says smiling.
"What's wrong?" Shawn asks concerned.
"Nothing's wrong, put your hand here." She says taking his hand and placing it on her stomach.
"She's kicking." Shawn says smiling.
"She's saying hi to dad before he leaves." Meghan responds smiling. She must see me watching them because she smiles at me.
"You wanna feel Walt?" She asks sweetly. I walk over and gently place my hand on her stomach, she is kicking and every time she does Meghan smiles.
"Can I feel?" Paige asks smiling.
"Sure." Meghan responds. Paige gently places her hand on Meghan's stomach and smiles bigger. She then looks up at me and gives me a small smile and I smile back, or at least I think I do.
"I miss these days." Paige says sitting down next to Meghan. Before I know it 2 hours have passed. Shawn and Meghan are just finishing the movie 'Struck by Lightning'. Meghan had her head on Shawn's chest when Shawn checks the clock on the wall.
"I should get going." He says quietly.
"Not yet, we still have 1.3 minutes." Meghan says without any movement at all. Shawn nods and they continue watching the ending credits.
"Hey Shawn? You'll be there right?" Meghan asks.
"Be where, sweetheart?"
"In the delivery room."
"I will try my best to be there, and if I'm not I'll send somebody."
"What do you mean by 'somebody'?"
"I have a close friend, who you know, who I will send, you can trust him."
"What's his name?"
"I can't tell you that."
"Ok." Meghan responds, laughing a bit, her big brown eyes sparkling.
"Ok now I really have to get going." Shawn say, checking his black wrist watch.
"I'll drive you two." I tell them, they nod and get into my small red car. I wave to the team as I walk out the door, they don't even look up from their projects. We drive down to the airport and Meghan and Shawn do not stop talking the entire ride there. When we get there Shawn and Meghan get out of the car, they hug for a very long time then kiss. Meghan gives him the army solute as he walks into the airport and he gives it back, she watches him leave with a smile on her face. She bites her lip and inhales deeply then gets into the car, just as it starts to pour.
"You ok?" I asks her. She takes another deep breath.
"I've been better." She responds. I pull out of the parking lot and start heading home... home.
"Are you going to sleep tonight?" I asks her, I know when she gets stressed she usually doesn't sleep.
"Probably not."
"Are you sure your ok?"
"Yeah, well I mean obviously I'm upset because the love of my life is leaving, but I mean I've never seen a smile like that on his face before, he was really happy doing this, so I'm happy, because he is. I just swear to god he better be there for the birth of our child." She responds chuckling a bit.
"Hey if he's not I will be." I reply smiling.
"Thanks Walt."
"Anytime." 'Waiting on the Sun' by The Shys comes on and Meghan smiles.
"Love this song." She says pushing her light blue wide rimed glasses up on her face.
"Did Shawn?"
"No, he hated this song." She responds laughing, I laugh too. Eventually we make our way back to the garage. It's still raining so we have to run into the garage, we're laughing when we run in.
"Is that the great Walter O'Brein laughing?" Toby says when we walk in, I roll my eyes at him.
"Are you ok, Meg?" Paige asks Meghan, in a sweet tone.
"Yeah." Meghan responds smiling. She plops onto the brown couch.
"I'm sleeping on the couch tonight."
"Why?" I ask Meghan.
"Because I can no longer make it up those stairs." She replies laughing. I lob her her NFL Steelers blanket.
"Thanks." She says smiling and hugging the pillow. I have to say, I'm quite proud of her, she's being really brave.
