Chapter 47: Get her out!

(2 Weeks later)
TOBYS POV
I walk into the garage with Happy. Only Walter and Sylvester are there so far. Happy walks over to her motorcycle and starts working on the engine. I get my books and start reading them. After a few minutes Paige walks in and then Meghan walks in with Ralph, she's smiling and it looks like Meghan was teaching Ralph some football. (Meghan's outfit in media)
"He's pretty good." Meghan says tossing the football to me, I miss it and the ball knocks over the glass cup on the table making it break.
"Nice job Doc." Happy says looking up from her engine.
"I can't play football!" I shout.
"Or baseball or soccer or tennis. Should I go on?" Happy says smiling the slightest bit.
"They get it." I respond.
"I have a case!" Cabe says walking into the garage.
"What is it about?" Walter asks walking over to Cabe with two coffee mugs in his hand. He hands one to Paige.
"Well there is somebody trapped in a gas lab and we need to hack the system to get them out." Cabe responds.
"Got it. Let's get going." Meghan says and we walk ok the door. We all drop Ralph off at school and get going to the gas lab. When we get there we all walk in together, everybody looks really stressed out.
"Ok so Meghan we're going to send you in through one of the windows and you are going to hack the system from the inside." Cabe says.
"Why me?" Meghan asks confused.
"Because the window is up about a story or two high and your the lightest so we need to send you in." Cabe responds and Meghan nods. Cabe and Happy help Meghan get into a harness and clip the harness to a crane. Happy gets in the crane and puts Meghan into the window. We can't see her until she jumps down from the window, we can see her on the cameras.
"Ok go straight and then take a left. The room should be right there." Walter says to Meghan through the ear peice.
"Ok I've got the room." She says stopping at the room. She starts hacking into the control panel on the wall trying to get into the room and let the man out.
"It's not opening!" She says hitting the wall with her fist.
"Keep trying." I tell her calmly. She continues hacking for about 10-15 minutes and finally gets the door opened.
"Finally!" She says as she opens the door. She walks in and grabs the guys arm and pulls him to the door. The door closes behind them, Meghan tries to open it but it won't open.
"Um guys it's stuck." Meghan says pulling hard on the door handle.
"Um yeah... one second." Walter says. He mutes the microphone so she can't hear us.
"We have a problem." Walter says turning to the team.
"What problem?" I asks nervously.
"Well, it looks like somebody is locking the room from the inside. They are purposely trying to lock them in there. That room that they are in has a direct line to all the gasses. If the person locking them in there releases the gas they will both be dead in minutes." Walter says. The whole team takes a shaky deep breath.
"So we need to get her out of there." Sly says taking out his computer. We unmute the microphone.
"What's going on in there?" Meghan asks.
"Ok so somebody locked you in there and may release a poisonous gas that could kill you in minutes." Walter says.
"Could you be anymore straight forward?" Paige asks hitting Walter on the arm. The man starts hitting the side of the wall.
"Don't do that it's not going to help! Nobody can hear us or see us in here!" Meghan shouts at the guy.
"I can't believe I'm stuck in here!" Meghan shouts out in frustration. There is no control panel on the inside so she can't help. She sits on the floor and takes a deep breath.
"We need to get her out of there." I say turning to the team.
"We're doing all we can Toby." Sylvester says without looking up from his computer.
"He pretty much made the whole thing invisible." Sly says confused. At that moment the power goes out.
"Great the powers out." I say squinting to see the team. The guy locking Meghan in the room must of turned them off.
"I got it." Sly says typing something into the computer, the lights come on in seconds.
"The lights are an easy fix, its the door we have a problem with." He says still typing away at the computer.
"Um guyyyys..." Meghan says through the ear piece.
"Yeeeess?" I respond.
"Um there is about two gallons worth of yellow/white smoke coming from the air vent." She says calmly. She good at keeping her cool.
"Oh shit." Walter says Turing to us.
"What do you mean 'oh shit'?" Paige asks nervously.
"That's a nerve gas he just released. They will be dead in 3 minutes." Walter says typing something into the computer.
"What was that?" Meghan asks angrily.
"You idiots forgot to turn of the mic!" Happy says hopping down from the counter she was sitting on.
"Oh my god I'm going to die in here." Meghan says sitting against the door.
"That's a very cynical point on view." I says trying to lighten the mood.
"It's the only point of view Toby." Meghan responds. Sylvester starts typing furiously on the keyboard trying every possible scenario. It takes him two minutes to get to the main control panel but we still have a few more fire walls. I look up at the monitor the man who is in the room with Meghan passes out.
"Why did he just pass out?" Meghan asks you can finally hear the frightfulness in her voice. She stands up.
"It looks like the nerve gas got to him." I say trying to stay calm.
"And why didn't it get to me yet?" She asks.
"Your younger it will take longer to get in your system. You have a minute, at most." I tell her. Sylvester continues typing without a second glance. Walter tries to help too but we can't seem to get the door opened.
"Um... I'm feeling really dizzy." Meghan says grabbing onto the wall to keep her steady. She's holding her head with the other hand.
"You just have to stay calm." Paige says.
"And stay awake." I add.
"Looks like 45 seconds, or less." I say looking at her condition. We wait about 5.6 seconds {Which, right now, feels like decade} the Sylvester shouts
"I got it! But she will have to take the long way."
"Tell her what to do!" Happy shouts at Sylvester.
"Ok do you think you can make it to the south end of room?" Sylvester asks Meghan.
"I think so." She responds, somehow still staying calm. She goes straight to the south end of the room, wobbling a bit.
"Next go into the small room in the corner, it should open automatically." Meghan does what Sylvester says and enters another room.
"How many rooms are there?" Meghan asks you can hear her voice getting weaker.
"This should be the last room." Sylvester says. He turns to us.
"I want you guys to go outside, there should be a door there where Meghan will be exiting. You need to be there to make sure she doesn't get hurt." We nod. Happy, Walter, Paige, Cabe and I run out to the door we find it and wait there patiently. We have ear pieces too so we can hear what Sly is saying to Meghan.
"Now go forward, when you walk forward there will be a door. On the three I want you to push as hard as you can on the door. When you pass through the door it will blast you with a sterilizing gas that will block the nerve gas from entering the outside." He instructs her.
"1...2...3" Right when he says three she runs and pushes the door open. When the door opens she falls hard to the ground. She's sweating and her face is pale. An EMT comes running over with a gurney. I pick Meghan up bridal style and gently place her on the gurney. The EMT puts her into the ambulance. Sylvester comes running over.
"Is she ok?" He asks out of breath.
"I think she'll be fine." I respond. We stand there and watch as the ambulance backs away.
"Go to the hospital, I'll meet you there." Cabe says. We do as told and get there in less then 10 minutes because Happy is driving. We walk into the emergency room and wait for our name to be called.
"The Jacobs family?" A nurse says looking at his clip board. We all stand up and walk to the room.
"Right here." The nurse says gesturing towards the door. We walk in to see Meghan laying down in a hospital bed.
"Hey guys." Meghan says weekly, She's smiling. She has an IV in her right hand and breathing tubes up her nose.
"Hi friend." I say sitting down in the seat across from the bed. Everybody says hi and gives her gentle hugs. Cabe walks in about 5 minutes after we do.
"We found out who locked Meghan in the room?" He say standing next to Meghan's bedside.
"Who?" Meghan asks sitting up.
"His name is Sam Johnsen. He was in the far West part of the building. Now he's in jail." Cabe says.
"Good." Meghan says her eyes starting to close.
"We should leave and let you sleep." Paige says. We exit the room and go back to the garage. It feels weird being here without her. The doctor says she will be out of the hospital tomorrow. Which is great news.
