Chapter 56: The accident

WALTERS POV
I wake up in a hospital room. My leg is elevated and in a white cast, my head is pounding and I feel like it's going to explode. I look over to see Happy and Toby sitting there in front of my bed, they are holding hands. I don't remember anything that happened.
"What happened?" I ask startling them a bit.
"Oh Walt, good your awake." Happy says letting go of Toby's hand.
"What happened?" I ask again.
"Now your just being redundant." Cabe says walking into the room, Sly shortly following.
"What-" I ask getting cut off by Toby.
"Happened, we get it. Well it's kind of a long story. So when you were driving back to the garage there was an accident, both you and Paige were in the front seats. You got a concussion and a broken leg and Paige was impaled in her right shoulder. You should both be out in two days-" I cut him off.
"Paige got hurt?!" I ask sounding more frightened then expected.
"Yes but she will be fine." Happy says calmly.
"What about Meghan, is she ok?"
"Well if you would let me finish, you would know what happened. Ok so Meghan was in the back seat with Sly, they were both fine because they were in the back seat. But when she was getting out of the car to check on you and Paige, she was shot. She's in surgery right now." Toby says softly.
"Oh crap, Who was she shot by?"
"Somebody working for Eddie, but thy said if she hadn't of been shot he probably would have killed a lot more people. When she was shot Cabe caught the guy, he's in jail now." Toby informs me.
"How is she doing?"
"We won't know until she's out of surgery."
"How long will that take?"
"About another hour or two."
"Where was she shot?"
"Spleen." Toby responds. I bite my bottom lip.
"How's Paige?" I ask nervously.
"She's doing just fine right now, she's awake." Toby responds giving me a soft smile. I smile back happily knowing Paige is ok. We sit in a comfortable silence for a while and then a question pops into my mind.
"Was it my fault we crashed?" I ask anxiously.
"No don't worry Walt, a truck cut you off and then stopped, immediately causing the accident. It was in no way your fault." Happy says kindly. I can breathe again knowing it was not my fault.
"Shouldn't Shawn be here?" Cabe asks Toby.
"Well he's in school right now, he can't pick up his phone until after school." Toby informs him.
"Can Paige be moved to this room, with me?" I ask Toby. He looks at Happy then me.
"I can ask if you want. Happy can you come with me?" He responds. They get up and walk out of the room together.
"He liiiiiikkes her." I hear Toby say to Happy, she elbows him in the arm.
"Your so immature." She replies. He puts his arm around her and they walk out of the room.
Is it true? Do I really have feelings for Paige Dineen? Can it be? It couldn't be true, it can't be true.
I wrestle with this thought for a while, then Toby and Happy walk back in.
"They said you can share a room, one of the nurses will be wheeling her in in a few." Happy says. A smile grows across my face. After what feels like a 10 hour wait (but is actually 5 minutes) they finally wheel Paige into the room on a gurney. When they settle her in she looks at me and smiles. Her shoulder is wrapped in an ace bandage, she has no makeup on and she has an IV in her right hand, but she still looks beautiful as ever. She takes my right hand with her left one and holds it tight.
"How are you doing?" She asks me.
"I'm doing great now that your here." I respond looking into her chocolate brown eyes.
"How are you doing?" I ask her.
"Great now that I'm with you." She replies a soft smile growing on her face. A smoke grows on Toby's face and he leans into Happy.
"I'm always right." He whispers. We hear the door knob turn and direct our attention to the door, a young nurse walks in.
"Excuse me, is Tobias Curtis, Happy Quinn, Sylvester Dodd and Cabe Gallo in this room?" The nurse asks the four of them nod.
"I just wanted to inform you that Meghan Jacobs is out of surgery." The nurse says giving us a soft smile.
"Is she awake? How is she doing?" We all ask in unison.
"She is not awake quite yet. At the moment it is touch and go, but I assure you we are doing all that we can." The nurse says in a gentle tone of voice. She then walks out closing the door quietly behind her. We all look at each other nervously. Happy looks down at her wrist watch.
"Oh shit, we need to pick up Jess from daycare now. I could probably get them to extend the hours-" Happy says getting cut off by Paige.
"It's ok, you two go, we will be fine here. You two go take care of your baby girl, she needs you." Paige says nodding her head slightly.
"Ok we will be back tomorrow, you two feel better and update me on Meghan's condition." Toby says waving to us as he walks out the door. Cabe and Sly stay for another hour and then leave because by that time is 12am. When they leave it's just Paige and I, we are still holding hands. I smile at her as she slowly closes her eyes and drifts off to sleep. I decide to stay up and think for a little while. Before I know it it's 2am, I'm just now starting to get tired and decide to closes my eyes and fall asleep.

AUTHORS NOTE:
Ok so I recently found out about how to do the italics and bold so I'm going to be playing around with that a lot. I have to say, it's pretty cool. Anyway I hope you liked this chapter, I've decided to do some cliff hangers in my chapters recently, so I've been having fun with that.
