Footsteps thundering, gunshots echoing, the chaos of seemingly endless bullets consumed the vicinity like an inescapable virus. Regardless of the whirlwind disorder, the operatives from both parties moved through the area with rushed yet calculated steps, trading fire with their opponents in the middle of it.
As the healer of the deployed team, Sage knew she shouldn't take too many risks at the very front. If she was immediately down for the count, then her allies would not only lose their sustaining support in the field, but also would have an added mission of getting her back if ever she was apprehended.
Sage tried. She really did. But she couldn't bear to just stay behind cover and wait for an opportunity to cast her heals on her friends. She couldn't remain where she was the moment she heard both Jett and Neon request back up from where they were pinned down by heavy gunfire.
"I'm on my way!" Sage said through theirs comms before breaking out into a sprint to the pair's location. She heard Viper, Brimstone and Reyna voices in her ear, telling her to hold on and to stay where she was.
Their communication line was a verbal disaster, especially with everyone speaking all at once. Sage reached up to her ear and turned it off, removing what she deemed unnecessary orders as she made her way to the two duelists. She knew that she wouldn't be hearing a lecture from just Brimstone and Viper. Reyna would certainly have more than a few words to say to her once they finish the mission.
Sage truly hoped she wouldn't encounter anything or anyone on her way to Jett and Neon. Yet, it would seem that fortune was not in her favour for today.
"Gotcha!" came what sounded like Raze's enthusiastic voice.
An explosion, small or big, was the first thing Sage anticipated among hearing the Brazilianʼs ironically booming voice. The last thing she expected was a projectile being launched at her by the eager duelist, which she realized too late was from Omega Earth.
"Catch!"
By the time Sage turned to shoot whatever it was that was thrown at her, she found herself being pushed back, stumbling on her own feet as she lost her balance before falling onto the ground. Sage let out a cry as a sharp object pierced through her shoulder, her hand shooting towards the source of agony as she tried to push herself up against the wall behind her.
Her hold on the hilt of the knife embedded in her loosened significantly when a draining sensation began spreading throughout her body. She was certain the knife didn't hit anything vital, yet it felt as if she had been struck right in the heart with how weak she so quickly became.
Mirror Raze grinned from the top of the crate she landed on after her satchel jump, giving Sage a mocking salute as she said, "Tell your robot thanks. I got the knife from him, after all."
Memories of the effects KAY/O's knife had on her and the rest of the Radiants in the Protocol fleeted in her head. They've all experienced having their powers nullified, yet actually being stabbed by the knife itself? This was a first. Sage wasn't even aware of the possible side effects it had.
"I hope you don't mind, though. I tweaked it a little."
Sage felt like every inch of her body was going numb. It reminded her of the early signs of a stroke, even. She desperately hoped that wasn't the case. "What... What did you do?"
"We're not cruel, ya know. But, we do what we have to do, and in this case? Well, one less healer on your side is one less problem for us to deal with." Raze then nodded at her. "That knife was supposed to be for your Reyna, but you're a valid target, too. Guess it's not a complete waste, right?"
