Groups of patrols marching across the area filled the hangar with the echoing, audible thump of boots against steel, mixing along with the deep whir from the generators at the far side and the shouted commands of a squad leader ordering his troops to haul the newly arrived supplies from the carriers. It was a loud yet orderly scene that displayed a semblance of the usual routine of those a part of the VALORANT Protocol. A militaristic organization created and funded by those that founded the United Nations for the sake of protecting the entirety of the world from the unknown.

Despite existing solely to serve and protect every nation on Earth, there was still the fact that there were others that were too greedy for power. Those that sought for bigger and better rankings and level of superiority among their peers. This, of course, leads to government officials hiring mercenaries through their connections and the strings they had the privilege to pull.

With Radianite being an extraordinary mineral capable of things like no other, the world leaders came to a unanimous agreement to keeping it exclusively under the jurisdiction of VALORANT, limiting its distribution and keeping it from the hands of those who intend to use it for malicious intent.

But since when did that ever stop those who were desperate for their share of unimaginable power?

Vincent Fabron, the new Minister of the Economy, Finance and Recovery of France, was one of those greedy officials wanting a personal dose of said power. After meeting a certain biochemist rumoured to have been involved in questionable projects during a formal gathering at the United States, he found his way into a surreptitious circle of illegal trading. A place that reached much deeper than the black market he was long familiar with.

Said biochemist, Doctor Sabine Callas, agreed to bridge a connection between the French minister and one of her contacts behind the scenes in exchange for funding for her undisclosed research and scientific trials. Despite being one of the brightest minds of her generation and believed by the public as one of the doctors that could possibly cure the most incurable illnesses in the future, she still resorted to methods that she was more than aware would not garner the support of the general population.

Out of the entire world, it was said that there was less than half a point of percentage that were exposed to Radianite and developed otherworldly abilities rather than dying from its lethal radiation. While others either hid themselves, volunteered or were recruited into the Protocol, some chose controversial paths that led to crime and terrorism.

This led to the creation of an unnamed syndicate that gave not a single trail for any government to follow. A group of professionals that exceled in cyber warfare, covert yet extensive field operations and contract killings that even the most brutal hitmen shudder from in fear.

The VALORANT Protocol may be deemed as the most elite government-controlled organization, this particular group was their major competitor when it came to power and influence. They might not have the same sponsors and access to various resources, yet they still gave VALORANT a run for their money. Both literally and figuratively.

From thieving priceless items, one-of-a-kind artifacts to abducting any individual across the globe, as long as a client could pay their ridiculously extortionate rate, they will get the job done.

Though unlike Icarus, they knew not to fly too close to the sun. The fact that they were accepting a contract that closely involved one of the core members of the Protocol was already a huge risk. Once they accomplish this specific operation, they would likely lay low until the heat dies down.

After being wired half of their payment from none other than the French Minister, the mentioned task force immediately set themselves to work. Obtaining the confidential schedules of personnel and swapping places with various units they discreetly removed, handfuls of the unauthorized squad could be found currently in disguise and blending among the personnel of VALORANT headquarters.
