Recombinant 024

Keeping secrets, especially during such a crucial time for the Protocol, was the last sensible thing to do. Yet despite such clear fact, that's exactly what Cypher did. He would allow Chamber to continue his covert actions, but this time Cypher would put obstacles in his path. Hurdles that he would not be able to overcome, but he would be forced to find another method to proceed.

Chamber may have been playing this game for a long time with just himself and his dimensional twin, but now, Cypher was a player in the shadows. A player that would often spectate, but would definitely meddle if things got too out of hand.

Rather than having what felt like the umpteenth urgent meeting in the main conference room, Cypher was just outside the command center with Brimstone and Sova, who honestly looked like he was this close into turning all his hairs white from everything that was happening. The Moroccan idly toyed with a tripwire between his fingers, his gaze wandering while his focus remained fixed on the discussion.

"It might seem overkill, but Sova, I know that I already told Chamber to coordinate with Cypher here, but maybe you could also lend some help on speeding things up?" Brimstone queried, barely hiding the hint of desperation in his voice. With things gradually worsening for them, he really was just aiming to resolve this disastrous affair before anything else.

Sova seemed entirely willing, but he was cut off by Cypher, who shook his head and said, "That won't be necessary. I've already bypassed the security on Fade's communicator and gained access to her contacts. All I need to do now is give the other side a call, set a time and location, and make the trade."

"Is it truly as easy as you make it seem?" Sova asked, somewhat unable to believe it could be accomplished just like that.

"Our Fade and Killjoy are vastly valuable to us. What more to the Legion when it comes to the counterparts of those two?" Cypher tossed the tripwire up in the air like a coin, emphasizing his point with the way he caught the apparatus. "I believe that it may just be that simple."

Even Brimstone looked relatively skeptical. "You think so?"

"Well," Cypher knew they were well-aware of how delicate the situation was. He tilted his head left and right before shrugging and saying, "I suppose the existence of the children complicates things. Their Killjoy personally saw Luthor, and their Fade even had the opportunity to acquaint herself with Yu Zyn. They have all the proof on who those children are related to."

"Which puts a bigger target on not just our comrades, but also the young ones in general."

Cypher nodded, concurring with Sova's words. "Correct."

"Do you think they're aware of Sergei as well?"

Both Cypher and Brimstone looked towards the archer, eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "Sergei?"

"Oh," Sova shuffled on his place, offering a small apologetic look before clarifying, "the boy. I'm referring to the boy that Reyna and Sage recently brought back. Omen and I have decided to name him Sergei."

"You and Omen co-parenting?" Cypher was genuinely amused by the concept. "That is certainly a development I could never have anticipated."

Brimstone cleared his throat, steering the focus of the conversation back to the initial topic. "Alright, alright, we can discuss that matter another time. Right now, I need all of you on top of all this. Cypher, set a meet. If possible, at least two to three days from now. Sage gave a brief report earlier. Killjoy's injuries were a bit fatal, so we'll need some time to fix her up before we can make the trade."
