Recombinant 011
Pairings: Viper x Killjoy / Reyna x Sage / Fade x NeonThe day started off quite well if looked at in a positive perspective. Regardless of the recent disastrous accusations, revelations and compunction, the dust of everything was just settling and the relatively peaceful aftermath came upon them like a book that started its new chapter.
Yu Zyn and Luthor's dreams remained free, but mainly because their parents ultimately gave their full permission in letting Fade meddle into the situation. This, of course, came with Neon's assurance that they would not regret it and that they could definitely trust the Turkish agent. It's what led the children and their mothers into deciding on sharing their morning meals with the dream seer and the electro runner.
The saying about all good things coming to an end was quite quickly applied to the group, mainly onto Reyna.
The woman thought she could somehow rest easier now. She and Fade had made amends, her daughter wasn't tormented in her sleep anymore and now, she and the rest of the agents of VALORANT could finally focus on the primary threat.
Omega Earth.
But the world seemed to have other plans for her. When she chose to appease her speculative thoughts and question Fade about what she meant when she brought up her late sister, the sense of peace seemed to shatter in her mind. The shards pierced her in a way she never foresaw it could do.
Viper promptly excusing herself from a gathering or a meeting wasn't anything out of the ordinary. The scientist never missed out on anything unless it was trivial. Now, when she left breakfast earlier than most of the group expected, Reyna didn't think much about it and settled on assuming that the American just had something more important to tend to.
What Reyna did not expect was that one of the many possible critical cases that seemed to require the woman's attention could be Lucia. The same sister she thought she lost forever to the grasp of time and death.
"Reyna, listen...-" Fade may not be interested in putting herself in between one issue after another, but the second she saw the way inner shift within Reyna, she knew she needed to at least try to defuse the duelist's rapidly building fury.
Before the initiator could react, Reyna's hand found its way to her throat and the warm drink Fade was holding ended up on the floor. Though the fingers around her neck didn't dig in as much as she expected it would, it held a wordless promise that they were capable of harm and merely chose not to inflict it at that moment.
"Fade!" came Neon's relatively distant call of concern, clearly spotting the current exchange.
"Reyna, I'm not your enemy here." Fade spoke swiftly and calmly, slowly raising her hands to display no hostility with hopes of the gesture easing the clearly high-strung woman.
"Do not get in my way."
So many things that could be done onto her, yet Fade was only one. The initiator was already preparing herself for a fistfight against Reyna. She wouldn't hit the latter with the intention to hurt her, of course, but she was definitely not going to stand by and let the other do onto her what she will without putting up a fight.
Thankfully, Reyna released Fade, maintaining their tense eye contact for another second before shouldering past her and heading towards one of the exits. Maybe it was the fact that Fade hadn't been bounty hunting lately, or maybe Neon's warm and forgiving attitude was rubbing off on her, but had Reyna done that to her before they were allies, Fade probably wouldn't have hesitated in drawing a knife and meeting Reyna's silent threat with her own.
