Snakeskin 004

Distractions.

Those were things Viper avoided at all costs. Being absorbed by such often hindered her works and other projects. As someone who handled dangerous chemicals, Viper should have her complete and utmost focus on the compounds she mixed. One tiny mistake could cause not only another individual's life but hers as well.

Out of everything she's surrounded with and was currently involved in, only one thing served as an intrusion to her focus. And this so-called 'thing', it was initially right on top of one of her operating tables. This 'thing' was Killjoy of all people, and the latter had been transferred to a medical bed Viper requested upon the techie's loss of consciousness.

Two days ago, Viper arranged a meeting with Sage in this cozy, little coffee shop. It went swimmingly. At least, as long as no one counted the unforeseen arrival of the Kingdom's director. Viper was hoping that said close call was the only event that would nearly send her reeling from anxiety. After all, if things hadn't gone the way she and Sage hoped for, the doctor was sure Akimbe wouldn't have hesitated to command his security personnel to open fire on the two of them, innocent bystanders be damned.

Yet the man had a way of trying to corner Viper. Despite the massive access he and Kingdom had already given her to their database and many other of their assets, Akimbe said it himself. They were still testing to see if they could catch her in the middle of double-crossing them. It never would be easy to earn their trust.

That was until Killjoy was captured, and again, like what Akimbe claimed, this was the perfect opportunity to truly test Viper's loyalty to the corporation and their cause, let them be legal or not.

With her being immensely versed in various chemical substances and possessing a vast data of serums and all types of medications, Viper was quick to administer a medication onto Killjoy. It was a little formula she had synthesized all those years ago, and she had only used it less than a handful of times in the past to the point that not even Kingdom was aware of it.

It caused all those injected with it to undergo several symptoms such as high fever, headaches, muscle aches, and immense fatigue. Most of these things, if left untreated, could cause numerous complications and maybe even the death of a person. The amount Killjoy was dosed with was enough for her to suffer, but both fortunately and unfortunately, it would not be capable of killing her.

Fortunate because the techie would be left alive, and unfortunate since she would have no choice but to feel like her body was on the verge of just collapsing altogether. It was no surprise she fell unconscious soon after she was given the serum.

Viper knew that every security personnel that would stride into her work area without being called for initially was Akimbe's way of checking on her. The same guard that always dropped by and 'politely' asked if she needed anything wasn't exactly subtle with his glances towards Killjoy's immobile, shuddering form.

Upon the third day, Viper noticed how Killjoy's symptoms were becoming far too worse than she predicted. Calmly she may have been when she produced a syringe filled with a form of stimulant, Viper was doing her best to steadily inject the aforementioned liquid. Once done, the effects were quick and instant.

Killjoy let out a hoarse gasp, tired eyes barely able to keep themselves open as they fluttered. Viper withdrew a small water bottle from one of the small refrigerators at the side of the room, swiftly uncapping it before approaching the bed again and adjusting its controls to make Killjoy assume a semi-seated position.

The dryness of the techie's lips, her relatively sunken eyes and the cold sweat glazing her skin, despite having her IV bag being regularly replaced, it would seem that the medication was accelerating the effects of dehydration far too much than anticipated.
