Unfamiliar Home
To say that Sage was nervous would be an absolute understatement.
With the agents of the VALORANT Protocol heading off to their homelands with company of their own, it wasn't too surprising to see that the second-in-command also flew out. What could be considered a bit shocking was the fact that it wasn't back to China, but more towards the direction of Mexico.
Apart from the members of VALORANT, the only large group of people Sage had ever associated herself with were the people back in Shaanxi. She had grown up around monks that taught and raised her to become the way she was now, and unlike any other place, she was more used to balance and peace. Nothing too loud, nothing too active.
Despite all that, Sage ever so willingly agreed to accompany Reyna back to her hometown. She did set a little condition though, which was in the form of a promise that she asked Reyna to make. The latter was all too happy to say yes to it, especially since it involved her spending the Lunar New Year with the healer. In Reynaʼs eyes, that was just another opportunity to further strengthen their relationship.
Christmas wasn't something Sage considered out of her element, especially since Reyna decided to spend that particular holiday with just the two of them. The duelist toured her around Mexico City, spending the days and nights in each other's company. Throughout the entire way, Reyna would buy Sage whatever caught the healer's eye. Whether it was a trinket or a simple yet colorful-rimmed mini sombrero, Reyna got it and proudly gifted the items to Sage.
What Sage truly treasured from all their wandering and exploring was the doll Reyna found and bought for her. It was just a little rag doll with hair styled in twin buns beautifully adorned with tiny accessories and a white and green huipil dress.
With so many presents, both small and big, that came from Reyna, Sage felt a bit embarrassed that all she got Reyna was a Chinese knot bracelet she personally made by hand and two lucky cat statues, one white and one pink.
Reyna was seated at the foot of the bed, inspecting the gifts Sage had given her. While the former seemed so fascinated with the items she received, the sentinel chose to busy herself with the task of repacking the things they brought out from their luggage after checking into the hotel they're currently in.
They would be traveling to Reyna's hometown later on and Sage didn't waste that as the chance to appear busy. She didn't want to admit that she was worried Reyna wouldn't be happy with what she got for Christmas from her. It made Sage ask herself if she should give her New Year present early. But if she were to do such, then that would mean she wouldn't have anything to give once the following year rolled in.
Sage was in the midst of deciding on how she would pack the mini sombrero she newly received when Reyna's voice stole her attention.
"I've heard about these things." Reyna said as she looked at the two inanimate cats in her hands. "They bring good fortune, do they not?"
"They do. But," Sage stepped towards Reyna and pointed between the two items. "they both have different meanings."
"And they are?"
"The white represents good luck and good fortune." Sage briefly stopped when Reyna cooed and pressed her lips against her pulse. She hadn't realized she was leaning so close, and honestly, even she herself was sometimes surprised Reyna could still make her feel like this despite how long they've been together.
"You are the only luck and fortune I need, mi tesoro." Reyna purred, nipping at Sage's earlobe before planting a kiss on her cheek. "But nonetheless, thank you."
