Operation Mirrorverse
The soft whirr of the machine before the scientist filled the room, accompanied with the occasional clink of metal and muttered curses in German at the other side of the lab. Though it wasn't disturbingly loud, it did prompt Viper to flicker her gaze up to where she could see a small part of Killjoyʼs beanie poking out from where she was situated behind one of the contraptions in the laboratory.
Her Radianite Splicing Machine was having technical difficulties lately and when Viper submitted a report to Brimstone about it to request one of the technicians to take a look at it, he sent Killjoy to handle it.
Viper had sighed when the techie came to her lab a little over an hour ago. She was hoping Brimstone would send someone else, but then again, maybe this was her fault for not being specific at all, or just fixing the contraption herself. She could do it anyway. The only reason she submitted the report was because she preferred focusing more on her current research rather than spend her time repairing the aforementioned machinery.
Crash!
Viper sighed in exasperation, turning away from the panel she was inputting a formula she recently created. She made her way to where Killjoy was, crossing her arms and showing a displeased frown, which the tech whiz caught sight of when she peered over the equipment she was working on, a sheepish smile on her face.
"Sorry."
"Are you going to take any longer?" Viper questioned, disregarding the given apology.
"It won't be long now, I promise!" Killjoy said before sinking back to where she had opened up the machine from. Just when Viper rolled her eyes and was about to walk away, Killjoy started talking again.
Though there was an option to ignore it completely and just continue on taking her leave, Viper pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration. She shook her head to herself, clicked her tongue in self-annoyance, then ultimately leaned on the nearby counter.
"I'm just excited for my date with Izzy later!" Killjoy started telling, her eager tone more than enough of a hint of such. "We're going out on a picnic today and I'll be making some apple strudel for us. She loves those things."
No wonder Killjoy was more distracted than usual. The latter peeked over the machine again and when she confirmed that Viper was still there, she continued talking with the scientist about her plans with their fellow agent.
Viper stayed in her place, her lips formed into a line. Anyone who would see it would likely assume that she was just wearing that same indifferent expression she always had on her face, but there were two agents, particularly Omen and Reyna, that knew the true meaning behind it. After all, they were the only ones who noticed how distant it looked rather than impassive.
For at least a couple more minutes, she listened to Killjoyʼs animated rambles before she released a long and audible sigh, wordlessly telling the techie she had grown tired of their one-sided conversation.
By the time Killjoy peeked over again, she found Viper turning away and heading back to her previous place in the lab, her feet taking her to the beeping machine across the room.
Unoffended by the somewhat rude leave, Killjoy continued on with her work, entertaining herself by quietly whistling a little tune. The remainder of the time Killjoy spent fixing the broken machine, Viper didn't bother going back and checking on the other. Instead, when Killjoy finally finished and notified her of the completion, all Viper gave was a quiet grunt and a dismissive wave.
Despite the rather cold dismissal, Killjoy perked up, grinned and waved back. "Just call me directly if ever something breaks again, yeah? I'll fix it up in no time. Auf Wiedersehen!"
