Snakeskin 005
Water.
And the pills, of course.
That was all Killjoy needed to recover from what she thought was a severe illness.
In one of the private units in the Infirmary, Killjoy was half-tucked under the blanket, while Sage inspected her for any developments. It took one whole day filled with lots of hydration, both from IV fluids and the bottles of water she was provided with. After all of that, Killjoy felt like she only just returned from an immensely exhaustive mission rather than from the captivity of their enemies.
Judging by the look on Sage's face and one of the infirmary's doctors that were put in charge of her health, Killjoy's state had improved and wasn't at risk as much as it was when she was first rescued from captivity.
Killjoy waited until the doctor finished writing on his clipboard and left the room before she turned to Sage, who was double-checking the papers on the side, mainly the one where she recorded the techie's water consumption. Sage nodded to herself and wrote something down, taking a fresh bottle of water from the mini fridge in the room and returning to where Killjoy was settled.
"You need to finish the contents of this bottle today, alright?" Sage said, placing said water on the overbed table at the other side of the hospital bed. "I know it is still a bit difficult for you to head to the restroom on your own, let alone stand, but it's a must for you to hydrate as much as you can."
"Is it for me to flush out the poison Viper gave me?" Killjoy muttered, remembering how Viper had been cruelly whispering about how the toxin she injected her would be enough to kill her. "She was really nice about it when she forced it on me."
Sage's eyes flicked over to Killjoy, while she kept herself busy fixing the blanket atop the engineer.
Killjoy sighed. "I didn't think she was capable of it, Sage."
"Viper is extremely versed in chemicals and many other substances." Sage replied somewhat aloofly, turning her focus on the adjustable barrier from her side of the bed.
"I'm not talking about the toxin in general. I'm talking about what she did to me. How she spoke to me." Killjoy slumped against her pillow, staring down on her lap. She may still be feeling drained, but what seemed to exhaust her more was her disbelief and how she couldn't decide if she should be furious or be brokenhearted.
During her capture, Killjoy had screamed and shouted things that she wouldn't have outright said. Never ever thought she would utter to Viper of all people. She admitted to the woman how she loved her. She had been so uncertain for so long and always thought that maybe it really was just a crush blown out of proportion. But now that she had recovered enough for her not to be so worried about her health, it finally gave her a chance to fully process what she went through.
Somehow, the fact that Viper had been so proud and ruthless with how she harmed her hurt more than how it all felt physically. It made Killjoy realize at the time that her feelings for Viper did run deeper than she anticipated.
Sage finally directed her gaze to Killjoy, and despite how the techie had her head bowed down, she said, "I know you said you liked Viper. What happened must have come as a shoc...-"
"I told her I love her." Killjoy abruptly blurted out, head slightly lifting and eyes meeting Sage's visibly surprised look. "Or at least, I said that I loved her."
"You... You actually told her?"
"When she injected the poison in me, yeah."
"And what did she say?"
