Damned Hope (Vampire AU)
Mythical creatures that once proudly roamed in the open have long concealed themselves in the mask of human society. Some lived among the general population, blending in with people and trying to grasp a semblance of the life they either had or strove to achieve, regardless of their unorthodox nature. Most moved from one place to another to avoid suspicions, while others put up the illusion of aging along with their human peers.
Werewolves, ghosts, vampires and many others. But for this one, vampires would ironically be under the spotlight.
In the year of 1918, a virus scattered throughout the world within a span of months and went on to become the deadliest flu in recorded history. While humans fell ill and suffered under its grievous hold, these creatures watched from the safety of their own aberrant nature.
Unaffected. Untouched. Unreachable by the illness' deathly grasp.
Sometime in the of the year of 1918, the flu dubbed as the Spanish Influenza reached its highest peak and all of the beds in hospitals were occupied by sickly patients. There may be those relatively fortunate people that were given care, but like everything in life, there was always a price to pay. Literal and figurative.
At this time, rumours began spreading on where the flu originated, and one of the countries deemed as its root was Philippines.
Now, being a creature that's been living in the world for longer than a lifetime meant they needed to find a semblance of a routine to live their timeless life. Some vampires developed various interests, and that includes human biology and the science behind it. Rather ironic, but nonetheless reasonable. Most grew a fondness for the idea of traveling, seeing sights not anyone would ever have the pleasure to relish in.
As far as traveling went, it was rare to encounter other vampires or any other creature of the night that was friendly enough to strike up a conversation with instead of an actual deathly strike. Their territorial instincts made it difficult, but still, it wasn't impossible. This led to them forming a coven. Spending their immortal lives in the company of their fellow vampires, which made living in general more entertaining and less empty.
It's what led Hazal Eyletmez to the Philippines. From the land of Türkiye to the nation of Philippines, she was certainly far from home. To think she was merely here because of her coven mate's interest in studying the illness posing as a threat to the global population.
Now, Hazal didn't precisely hold the same fascination as Sabine Callas did when it came to anything involving human biology, nor did she share the ideals of Ling Ying Wei and her altruistic desire in helping humans recover from their health dilemmas. But regardless, she came with them and the others when they took a ship that brought them to where they were now.
Their coven leader, Liam Byrne, managed to pull some strings and got them a relatively big property, one that offered a home made from adobe stone and narra wood. It unsurprisingly captured the attention of the people that passed the property, but they made sure to keep to themselves, especially during mornings.
Moving to a tropical country was practically suicide for creatures who burn under the sun's exposure, which prompted the coven to build their own basement once they moved into their new residence. There they built their actual chambers, a space they remained in until the sun was down and the sky had darkened.
With Sabine and Ling working a night shift at the medical center an hour away from their abode, the others were left to find their own tasks to occupy themselves with. For Hazal, she was not too keen on medicine or anything involving such, but she found herself wandering to a hospital during one of her evening walks.
