Holiday Mishaps

The origin of the sickness was unknown, and it would forever remain as such. It wasn't anything too serious or life-threatening, but the situation and current state the bounty hunter was in definitely ruined her daily itinerary. Given even the slightest strength, Fade was at that point where she would trace back the source of the flu just because she wanted to cuss the person out for infecting her with the despicable virus.

It's been so long since Fade found herself unable to vacate her bed, and it wasn't even because of a bullet wound or any other serious injury. Being a Radiant meant having a couple of significant differences with normal humans, and that included physical attributes and capabilities. Not every Radiant had the same somatic condition though, and unfortunately for Fade, her immune system might not be as strong as she initially thought it was.

A flu.

That's it. That's her greatest enemy right now.

It started off as a little cold, one that Fade figured she would get through after asking for some medicine from the infirmary. She didn't bother Sage or Skye about it, seeing no reason to burden them with something so minor. Fade wasn't the type to ask for help that often anyway.

The illness seemed to subside during the mission she went through, but not even a full day after her return to headquarters, she experienced a relapse of it. One stronger and more draining than the last.

The two days Fade was supposed to take as her off-time were spent with her doing a terrible job in nursing herself back to health. She relied on the little snacks in her room and the water bottles from her personal mini fridge, both serving no assistance in helping her recover. Feverish sensations, occasional coughing, throat remaining sore, nose immensely stuffy, a vexing, lingering ache in her entire body, Fade felt utterly sick in every department.

Fade rolled over to the edge of her bed, reaching for the tablet on the bedside table. She opened the messaging app on the device and sent a short but acceptable message to both Sage and Brimstone, telling them both she was feeling unwell and that she wouldn't be able to participate in any operations until further notice.

Once her superiors were notified, Fade flopped back on her back and stared at the ceiling. She took one lungful of air after another, draping an arm over her eyes as she listened to any background noise she could hear to try and lull herself back to sleep. There was the low whirr of the air conditioner, the simulated rain sounds coming from the trapezium-shaped monitor mounted on the wall and, of course, her relatively labored breathing.

The little bottle of medicine she procured from the infirmary was already empty, and Fade really knew she should try and make the trip for another. She wasn't sure if it did help her or not, but it was worth the attempt, wasn't it? But then again, she had to have the strength to stand first before anything else.

Just the thought of standing made Fade groan. She decided to just grab her blanket and pull it up until it nearly covered her face, hoping she would find even the slightest bit of comfort to cling onto eventually.

While the Protocol's resident bounty hunter staying cooped up in her quarters, the electro sprinter of the aforementioned organization was eagerly heading to the hangar, where she was called by Viper. It was a bit surprising, but the woman did have a high position in VALORANT enough to level with Brimstone and Sage, so Neon figured the scientist might be her team leader for today's mission.

Neon had just recently returned from the Philippines after having her father make a few adjustments with her surge protector and its capacity for handling her radiance. Though it was the holiday season, Neon certainly acted all too excited to tend to missions and work in general. Most people during this time of the year preferred being back home either with their families or to simply relax and spend the month comfortably without any workload.
