Dragon's Damsel (Medieval AU)
From the far, wide lands of Valor, many peculiar creatures and breathtaking wonders could be unveiled. Not all had the pleasure of being bathed by the light of discovery and considering the unknown nature behind each and every one, perhaps it was best that it stayed that way.
But then again, humans always had that natural yet foolish defiance within them.
The tendency to show how they could be capable of so much more than anyone would ever think and to stand out from the rest. This was why so many people climbed the tallest mountain in the far outskirts of the kingdom with the intention of slaying the tremendously large, purple-scale dragon that resided within the great cave above.
No one truly knew where the menacing creature came from. It just appeared there one day, roaring and blowing purplish blue-black flames in the sky like a warning to those around its newfound home.
Those from the kingdom and the small villages around the mountain were fortunate that the creature never decided to wreak any form of fiery havoc other than the occasional scorching harvest of livestock. The dragon would swoop by farms and other lands, grabbing one or two cows or pigs, sometimes more in order to feed itself with fresh animal flesh.
Though the dragon clearly favoured animals more than humans, nobody took the risk in finding out if the creature did indeed feed from all the foolish men and women that charged up that mountain in hopes of slaying it. The current ruler of the kingdom offered more than ten lifetimes' worth of wealth to whoever would bring the dragon's head to him, which became the call that triggered the greed of nearly every knight, warrior, fighter and mercenaries in the lands.
The home of the dragon had been dubbed Dragonscale Mountain due to the rare sightings of actual dragon scales, purple and ever so pearlescent, scattered and lost in the forest by the beast itself. Each piece looked awfully akin to pure amethyst, which prompted many foragers in hunting down said scales to sell for a pretty price. But among all these trees, greenery and many other things, there were also healing herbs and other plants that had beneficial effects and uses for the ill.
Though the forest surrounding the kingdom of Valor was fruitful and a significant source of many things nature had to offer, only few were either brave or foolish enough to explore, let alone reside among the wildlife.
Despite the dragon being a popular topic throughout the kingdom and the lands surrounding such, Ling Ying Wei, a skilled apothecary and doctor, had never seen the creature personally. For as long as she could remember, she traveled alongside her mentor, who took her in after she lost her family when her village was caught in the crossfire of two foreign kingdoms waging war against one another. Only recently did she find herself arriving in Valor, where she immediately heard whispers about the dragon up the mountain and how it had been awfully peaceful these past couple of months.
It's been five years ever since she left her master's care, venturing far and wide to help those in need with the medical capabilities she was taught with. Her mentor taught her well and only when the old man encouraged her to share her gift with others did she finally start her own travels. Like her mentor, whose sobriquet was Apollo, she also took up her own pseudonym.
Every single person she came across, healed and helped with her handcrafted medicine, they all knew her as Sage. A name she carried from one village to another.
Magnificent long black hair neatly swept in a high ponytail, strands framing her relatively round face, narrowly shaped eyes as warm as they were brown, and skin fairly kissed by both day and night, Sage was the epitome of comfort and solace. It would be no surprise if every one of her patients would remember her, but one thing she was certain would remain with them was her little alias. A fabricated name that would remind them of the gentle woman that helped them in their most ill days.
