Katrina ran through the woods with inhumane speed. Her heart was beating a mile a minute as she did so. But not because she was afraid. Oh no, far from it. She felt untouchable. But certainly the lady that ran in front of her was anything but. She could smell her fear and it was like an aphrodisiac to her senses. Of course she could have caught her ages ago. But she kept circling around her, increasing her fear and in turn, the sweet appealing scent that it added to her blood.
But eventually, she tired of the chase and tackled her to the ground. She shook like a leaf in her arms.
"It's over. I'm really going to enjoy this" Kat said as she extended her fangs in preparation for the lovely meal in her arms.
*************
Kat woke up choking. She couldn't breathe. Her gasps, however low they were, brought her mother to her room."Breathe honey breathe. It was just another dream. Breathe" Carol said in her soothing voice as she held her daughter to herself, rubbing her back.
"It was so awful Mom. I don't wanna be that person. Mommy I don't wanna be that person!" Kat cried. Her tears soaked her mother's night gown but still, she held her.
"You won't be honey. Hey look at me" Carol said and lifted her chin gently so she stared into her eyes. "I will do everything in my power and in every witches' power to make sure that you don't end up a monster, okay. I love you sweetie and I don't love monsters so you are not one" Kat nodded, then frowned.
"But you love Damon" she said. It took her mother a second and then she burst into laughter. Kat snickered.
"Your brother is not a monster" she said.
"If that's true why does he always steal my stuff and invade my privacy and play pranks on me?" Kat asked, pouting.
"Because he's your brother and he loves you and he wants to play with you" she replied.
"Well I hate him so..." Kat trailed off smirking.
"As if. You can't help but love me" her nineteen year old brother said as he sauntered into the room.
"Urgh what is he doing in here Mom?" Kat asked, rolling her eyes.
"I'm here to wish you a happy sweet eighteen" he said. Kat sighed and got up.
"No one says sweet eighteen" she said in a deadpan voice.
"I just did. And I make everything a thing. Just wait, I could go off to school and say sweet eighteen and everyone would start saying it" he said smugly as he jumped onto her bed where she laid minutes before.
"Get off my bed looser" she said to him. "Besides don't you have lectures today? Mom tell him to go get ready for school!" Kat complained. Carol chuckled and ruffled her son's hair fondly.
"Actually sweetie you still have time. You woke us all up when you were gasping and it's just 6am so..." She trailed off.
"Oh. Wow well I'm sorry for waking everyone up. Now get that mutt off my bed so I can go back to sleep" her brother bared his wolf teeth at her.
"Call me mutt again and I bite you like one" he said. She rolled her eyes.
"Your threats get old mutt" she said. He rolled his eyes and got up.
"I miss when we were little and you were afraid of me" he said pouting.
"Asshole" she said.
"No cursing sweetie" Carol said.
"Oh but it's okay for him to threaten me?" Kat asked, narrowing her eyes at her mother who still sat at the edge of her bed.
"Well I knew he didn't mean it. He just wants to be with you and make sure you aren't scared and that's sweet of him" Kat rolled her eyes.
