Dreams. Some would say they were a manifestation of your subconscious mind. Some described it as a series of thoughts, emotions and images. Kat described them as hell. Especially the one she just had. She woke up sweating and had to go sit in the bathroom. On a second thought, she decided to take a bath to soothe her muscles, something she normally didn't do in the mornings. She had checked the time and it was three in the morning. She had time to relax before school. She only had one class and was honestly contemplating skipping it. She got out Bub's diary and continued reading from where she left off.

After an hour she got out of the bath and studied for a while before getting ready for school. Her class began by 9am so by 7 she was down for breakfast. Damon sat with Chris cozy on his lap, her mom and Dad were both trying not to gag at the cheesy words coming out of Damon's mouth. Or at least that's what Kat assumed.

"Morning guys. Karen hasn't come back to visit yet?" She asked. Karen spent a long time away from home and it was understandable since she had practically moved out. Okay she had completely moved out. She just left some of her things in the house so if she wanted to visit it would be easy. Since she joined King Cain's army after spending three years in college studying Defense studies, she spent two years in the army and she was already second in command. Kat always knew she could do it. When Karen set her mind on something, she accomplished it no matter what. But that also meant that she didn't return home throughout those two years and despite their five year age difference, they were really close and Kat missed her.

"No. She's not been answering our calls too" her mom said as Kat took a seat and her dad slid a dish toward her.

"Probably still busy with her mission for King Cain" her dad said.

"Yeah I guess. Hey can I borrow the car? I wanna drive myself to school today" Kat asked her parents.

"No need, I'll drive you" she turned and there in her living room stood Logan, twirling his keys.

"How'd you get into my house?"

"Haven't you heard? Mer people are slippery" he winked.

"I let him in. Honey can I talk to you for a minute?" Her mom asked. Kat nodded. They showed Logan to a seat and then went out the back of the house and into the forest.

"So how have you been doing with this Logan thing? I know that you don't like him for some reason and trying to repair your mate bond with him wouldn't be something you're comfortable with"

"I'm preachy"

"Sweetie that doesn't work on me. I'm your mother. Spill"

"I'm mated to a douchebag. My mate was supposed to be someone I can relate to, someone who was nice and would do anything for me. Someone to help me escape"

"Escape from what honey?"

"From my fucking life Mom! I'm not exactly accepted in the supernatural world and you may deny it but it doesn't make it less true. I'm eccentric and would never fit in with the humans. I don't belong anywhere or with anyone! But I was supposed to belong with my mate" Carol closed her eyes to stop the tears that threatened to fall. She pulled Kat into a hug.

"Honey, you belong with us, with your family" she said softly.

"Mom I'm useless. You guys are gonna figure that out sooner or later"

"You are my everything. Don't ever call yourself useless because you aren't. You're destined for great things" Kat scoffed.

"You're just saying that because you're my mom" she detached herself from her mom.

"Sweetie just know that you are beautiful and strong and powerful and brave and so much more"

"Thanks mom. I gotta go" she walked away and into the kitchen where Logan sat eating a microwave sushi.
