"It was a man called Bel-quan. I know him as father though" Kayden said.

"Your father? The king of the Jinns who single-handedly drove every single species out of the magical realm, that father? He's on earth?!"

"Well I wouldn't say single-handedly. This champ here helped a little. Well a lot" Bub said with a smirk at Kayden who glared daggers at him.

"But I thought you said it was your father who did those things?" Kat asked Kayden.

"It was my father who was the evil King of Jinns who chased every supernatural out of the magical realm"

Kat narrowed her eyes.

"There's a but in there somewhere" Jan said.

"Oh I almost forgot. Kayden, this is Janice, one of my very best friends. Jan, this is Kayden, my lying mate" Kat said. Kayden's eyes flashed with anger then they returned back to their soft blue.

"Nice to meet you Janice. And Kat, I didn't lie" he said the last part a little forcefully. Kat remembered he had a problem with lying in general and resisted the instinct to contradict his statement. "I simply didn't tell you the story because you never asked"

"You trying to pin this on me?" She asked.

"No, I'm sorry. I was just snippy because you called me a liar. Kat this is complicated, I'm complicated. That's why I wanted to let you live your life without me" he buried his head in his hands on the table. Beside him, Kat sighed, then wacked his head.

"Well it's too late now. You're already in my life. So suck it up. I get to choose whether your baggage is too much for me, not you"

He smiled a little.

"Let me tell you girls the story of the great war over the supernatural realm, as it happened, not as it was told"

"There's a difference?" Jan asked, her interest piqued. She loved history.

"Yes, there is. I guess there's no possible way of telling this story without beginning with her. My mother was the Jinn Queen and the sweetest, kindest and most naive person you could ever meet. She believed in peace and situations resolving themselves with dialogue and never lifting a finger to harm another living thing. That was just the person Lydia was. Which is why it makes no sense that she was mated to an evil demon. Or perhaps that was why. Balance her goodness and naivety"

"Demon? He wasn't a Jinn?" Kat asked softly.

"Well if you think about it, no one ever said the Jinn King was Jinn. All they said was that he was evil" Jan said.

"Oh but no one knew he wasn't Jinn. He hid that fact from everyone because he was a most prominent demon from earth and felt that would make the supernaturals look down on him. They tended to do that with earthlings"

"A most prominent demon?" Jan asked with narrowed eyes. Kayden smiled at her.

"You're very sharp. I can see you coming to a conclusion in your head right this second" he said.

"The devil?" She asked. Kat's eyes widened and she turned to look at Bub who sat across from her and Kayden, right beside Jan and Ash who still hadn't said a word.

"The devil, yes. But not this one"

"There are two devils?" Kat asked. Jan sat back and thought in silence.

"He was your father too" she said to Bub. Kat gasped.

"You're brothers? Which would mean Jason's your brother too" Kat looked back and forth between them, perhaps trying to see resemblance. Come to think of it, their blue eyes were really similar.
