Chapter 23. Damn Mer

She was back in her old room, safe and happy. Well as happy as she could be after everything that happened at Kayden's house.

After she left Melody in the caring arms of the lovely cook, Mrs Sanchez, she went back to check up on the guys. They were talking and she considered eves dropping but thought against it and just walked into the living room where they were.

She immediately went to the couch where Ash was seated and dropped unto the seat beside him. She held his hand in hers and frowned when she felt it shaking. That was when she noticed that conversation had stopped and they were all staring at her in an expression she couldn't dicipher.

"What?" No one answered. "What's wrong?" Nothing. Still with those looks. She hated being the center of attention that way. It wasn't nice after she turned thirteen and it wasn't nice now.

"If you're all just going to sit here and stare at me all day then I-" she began in a loud, angry voice and Bub jumped up.

"You know what I've got somewhere to be" he said while adjusting the button on the red dress shirt he was wearing.

"Oh okay that's fine. Leave me alone just like you did at my grandma's" that sat him back down. She knew she was being petty and that it honestly wasn't his fault that she went out and spent so much time in that shed but she knew something was up and she was determined to get to the bottom of it.

"Look Kat let's just go back home" Ash suggested. She calmed down at the sound of his voice and smiled at him.

"You're right we should get home. You just got some bad news and you need to be around people that care about you. Are we gonna be taking Mel?"

"Yeah. I spoke to her about it and she'll live with me and the pack. She's pretty excited about it. She says you have to visit though" Ash said. Kat grinned and he leaned in and kissed her cheek. Suddenly a growl was heard and Ash was pinned against the wall. By Kayden.

"Are you kidding me?! You're in love with her!" Kayden thundered.

"What?" Kat and Ash said in unison.

"I know love when I see it you dumbass" Kayden said. Kat frowned. Ash, in love with her? That was just, well she didn't know what to think of it. But what was it to Kayden anyway?

"I don't-" "Don't fucking deny it you bastard. I'll kill you" Kayden said. His eyes turned a vicious red and his grip on Ash's neck tightened. Kat went to run toward them but arms around her shoulder held her back.

"Let them work it out. Come on let's go-" "No! He'll kill him" Kat screamed at Bub who kept trying to steer her out of the room.

"He wouldn't kill his best friend. They'll just fight and get it out of their system as usual" Bub said absent mindedly.

"What do you mean best friend?" Kat asked Bub who froze at her words.

"Did I say best friend? Must have been a slip up" he said off nonchalantly. Kat narrowed her eyes. 

"What-" Kat began but was cut off by Ash flying arcoss the room and landing really hard on the opposite wall.

"What did you really expect? Six years I've been with her Kayd" Ash said when he got up.

"Your damn job! I expected you to do your damn job!" Kayden screamed. One minute he was on the opposite side of the room from Ash and the next he was right in front of him with a dagger which he began digging into his neck.

"I'm sorry Kayd. I didn't mean-" "What do you mean his job?" Kat asked calmly. Kayden immediately let go of the knife he held and it disappeared into a puff of black haze just before hitting the ground. He turned to face her with wide eyes, as did Ash.
