CHAPTER NINE

Picking up the octopus hotdog with his chopstick and putting it into his mouth, Shinichiro chewed and swallowed it with a satisfied look. "Your cooking is good as always!" He stated while holding the bento box that you had made for him and looked at you but then his smile quickly faded.

"Thanks" You lowly thanked for the compliment and just continued poking your food with a fork.

Noticing your behavior, he looked over at your lunch box and was concerned to see that you haven't even taken a bite of anything. "(Y/n)?"

You averted your gaze to him, answering him with a 'hm?'

"Is something wrong? Are you not hungry? You haven't even taken a bite of your food" He pointed out.

You shrugged your shoulders.

"C'mon tell me. Is something bothering you?" He asked again and this time he was a bit more persistent for you to tell him.

You gave in and just mumbled a few words. "I don't know. I guess I just don't wanna be at school today."

He stared at you in silence for a few seconds.

"But I'm fine so don't worry-"

"Then let's ditch school" His suggestion surprised you.

"What?!" You yelled and he quickly shushed you up by grabbing your hand then using it to cover your mouth.

"Shh! Others might hear you" He said as he grinned innocently then let go of your hand.

Now, you're screaming at him in a whispering tone. "Shinichiro are you insane?!"

"Maybe" He said with a small smile.

You just sat there and stared at him with wide eyes, afraid of the consequences that you two might face if you agreed with him.

"Come on, I'll help you sneak past the teachers" He then started packing his stuff and even helped pack yours. "Okay we're all set! Let's go!"

"W-wait!-" You were about to stop him but he had already grabbed your wrist and dragged you out of the classroom.

"Huh? Where the hell are those two going?" A few of your classmates asked each other after seeing the two of you leave with your bags.

Running down the stairs with Shinichiro, you kept on trying to tell him to turn back but he just wouldn't listen.

Every time a teacher walked by, he would hide the both of you behind a wall then continue running when they're not looking.

Finally, the both of you reached to the school gate.

"It's locked... How are we supposed to get out?" You asked and next to you, Shinichiro was already climbing over it.

"Hurry! Climb over it!" He said as he jumped and landed on the other side.

Unsure about this, you were hesitant. "I don't know about this, Shinichiro..."

"It's fine (Y/n), trust me" He assured you and after another hesitating for another minute, you tightened your jaw and grabbed the top of the gate with both of your hands and started climbing.

And as you were halfway there, a voice from behind you yelled, startling you.

"HEY! WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING?!"

You looked over your shoulder and saw a male gym teacher sprinting to your direction.

"Shit! (Y/n) jump!" He yelled.

Afraid of the gym teacher, you quickly jumped and as you were about to the ground, Shinichiro caught you in the air and the both of you made a run for it.

You ran with him and when you ran past an alleyway, Shinichiro dragged you into it to take a break.

Breathing heavily as you rested your back against the brick wall. You tried to catch your breath.

Shinichiro inhaled the air then bursted out laughing hysterically. "Pfft! His face was hilarious!" He kept on laughing uncontrollably.

At first you wanted to scold him but because of the atmosphere around him, you ended up cackling with him instead.

"So where do you wanna go first?" He asked you, still giggling.

"How about the mall?" You suggested and he agreed happily.

...

"You're gonna lose Shinichiro!" You chanted as you stepped on the arrows of the dancing machine.

"It's going too fast-" Shinichiro accidentally stepped on the wrong arrow and the game ended.

"AND I WON!!" You rejoiced happily, jumping up and down as the word 'victory' popped up on your screen.

...

Dropping a quarter into the claw machine, you held onto the controller and started to move the claw around.

"Slowly... Slowly..!" You watched closely as the claw slowly moved to the prize chute but when the plushie was an inch away from it, the claw automatically dropped causing it to fall back with the other plushies. "Ugh!"

Shinichiro who was watching from behind, chuckled and decided to give you a hand.

"Which plushie do you want?" He asked as he stepped forward and you moved out of the way.

You pointed at the brown teddy bear with a red ribbon tied around its neck.

He gave you a nod, dropped a quarter into the machine and attempted to win the teddy bear but of course, he failed.

His eyebrows furrowed as he dropped another quarter in and again, he failed.

Irritated and frustrated at the rigged machine, he clicked his tongue and kicked the machine then not even a second later he was on the floor aching in pain.

"Shin are you okay?!" You worriedly asked as you crouched down in front of him.

He looked up at you with a forced smile, "Yeah I'm okay-" He then let out an 'eek' after getting bonked on the head by you.

"Idiot! Don't kick machines!" You scolded him.

Suddenly, the machine made a strange noise, making the both of you turn to it with confusion plastered on both your faces then after a minute of silence, all the plushies from the machine dropped out of the prize chute.

Both of you had your jaws dropped to the ground.

...

Sitting at the table, slowly swinging your feet up and down as you stared at the view from outside the shop.

"Here you go" Shinichiro placed down your plate in front of you and sat down on the seat across from you.

You gave him a small smile and a 'thank you' then digged into your ice cream sandwich.

You opened your mouth and took a huge bite of it. "So good!!" You stated loudly.

Shinichiro chuckled at your behavior and ate his own dessert.

...

For the rest of the day, you two explored different places in the mall. Running back and fourth, up and down the escalators just like a little kids. At some point, you lost each other in a crowd and spent almost a whole hour looking for each other and when you did find each other, you two just laughed about it and continued exploring the mall.

"Ahhh! I'm so tired!" You exclaimed as you stretched your arms in the air while walking to the exit with Shinichiro beside you.

Shinichiro let out a small laugh, "I guess it's time we go home"

But when you went out of the mall, heavy rain were pouring down from the dark sky.
