CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

11:30 PM
A few days have past since Shinichiro have heard from you. Not a single call, not a single text and you didn't even see his messages. He was worried sick.

Shinichiro knocked on the front door and still no response.

He's been there knocking at your door for the past 20 minutes.

A deep sigh left past his lips as he reached into his jacket and then took out a key. It was a spare key that you had given him a few weeks earlier.

He pushed the key into the keyhole and twisted it around. After a few tries, it unlocked.

He entered the house in silence while apologizing for the intrusion.

The entire house was dead quiet. Not a single light was turned on.

He walked up the stairs and then halted in front of your bedroom.

He knocked on the door and after a few minutes, he heard footsteps.

The door swung open and he was surprised by what he saw.

There, standing at the door was you. You looked like as if you haven't slept ever since that day. Your eye bags became much more darker and visible. Your hair was a mess. You looked like a mess.

"Oh it's just you, Shin" You looked up at him blankly. "What are you doing here?"

Shinichiro looked over your shoulder and gazed into your bedroom.

There was only a small light from the lamp on your desk. It was dark but he could still see what was in there.

Books and crumbled up papers were scattered everywhere in the room. He assumed that this must've been your way of coping with your parents death. Overworking yourself.

"Do you need something?" You asked and he averted his gaze to you.

"We need to talk."

Now at the park, sitting on one of the swings with Shinichiro next to you.

"I talked to the doctors a few days ago and they told me that you'll inherit all of your parents fortune as soon as you turn 18 this year, 1 million dollars" Shinichiro started.

Gazing at the ground, you spoke up. "I..." You exhaled deeply. "I don't care about the inheritance."

A brief silence engulfed the two of you then you decided to interrupt it.

"If that's all you have to tell me then we're finished here. I need to get back to studying." You said.

"Is that how you always cope? Doing things to distract yourself from how you feel?" Shinichiro asked, "Is that how you coped with your younger brother's death?"

Your eyes immediately widened by what he had just said.

"Has it always been like that?

Is that why you're always willing to do anything for Emma and Mikey?

Even if it meant risking your life for the two of them?

You saw them as your younger brother, Noe.

You're still unable to accept that he's gone. You're still blaming yourself.

So you distract yourself from it by seeing Emma and Mikey as Noe."

Your lips began to tremble, "You're..." Clenching your fist as you looked down at your legs.

Shinichiro turned to you and his eyes slightly widened.

Clear liquid was seen dripping down onto your legs.

"You're... Wrong.." You said as tears began to roll down your cheeks. "I don't see Emma and Mikey as Noe... I see them as their own person..!"

You dug your fingernails into your legs. "I-I can't accept his death, you're right..." You stuttered and then tightened your jaw.

"But I would never see those two as someone else but themselves! I protect them because that's something I couldn't do for Noe... As long as they're safe then I don't care what happens to me! I'm sick of watching the people around me dying but.." You sighed as you bent down and hugged yourself. "It happened again... My parents are gone too." You muttered and sobbed. "First it was Noe and now mom and dad... It's-... It's not fair. Why does it always have to be me..?"

Shinichiro watched and listened to you in silence and then stood up from the swing and crouched down on his knees.

You looked up to him and was caught off guard when he wrapped his arms around you.

"You can't change someone's fate. If it has already been done, you can't undo it." He continued, "The only thing you could do is accept it. Even if it hurts. You have to accept it."

Lifting your arms up, you hugged him as tears came pouring out of your eyes uncontrollably.

You had finally snapped.

After all those years of suffering in silence. You just couldn't hold it in your chest any longer.

You let all your emotions out, blurting out everything that you've wanted to say for so long.

You never thought that this day would ever come where you're alone with someone, telling them how you feel.

But you're grateful.

This was all you needed.

Someone to listen to you.
