CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

Shinichiro's funeral took place at the Sano's dojo so the night before, everyone stayed up to prepare the ceremony. Well, everyone except you. No one has seen you ever since you got back home from the hospital.

Guests were arriving one after another and pretty soon, the dojo were filled with people who had known Shinichiro. Yet, you weren't anywhere to be found.

People went to the front to pay their respects to him. Around 15 people had already went up for the past 20 minutes.

All of a sudden the door to the dojo slid open, instantly grabbing everyone's attention and made them turn their heads around.

There, standing at the door was you. Dressed in a black suit.

Mikey watched with wide eyes as you began walking to the front of the room. He wasn't surprised by your arrival but surprised because of your sudden change of appearance.

Your hair was cut so short to the point it was a man's hairstyle. Not to mention the silver chain necklace that Shinichiro wears all the time is now worn by you.

You resembled Shinichiro a lot. You could easily be mistaken as him if seen from the back.

He also noticed how both your knuckles were completely covered with bruises. Some of the ripped skin were still red and bleeding as well.

You slowly made your way to the front and sat down on your knees on the mattress placed in front of a picture frame of Shinichiro.

Bringing your hands up to your face, you clasped them together and closed your eyes. And for a minute, there was silence. You bent forward and bowed down.

Your face an inch away from the ground as you slowly opened your eyes once again.

'What do I do now, Shin?'

You sat up and stared into the picture of Shinichiro.

'Rest well, okay?'

With that, you got up and went to sit down on an empty mattress with the other guests as the ceremony continued.

An hour later...
The funeral ceremony has ended. Guests were starting to leave while some stayed.

You on the other hand, went out and sat on the bench just outside the dojo for some fresh air.

But pretty soon, someone came and sat next to you.

"It's been a while hasn't it, (Y/n)?"

The person started. That voice was somewhat familiar to you. Could it be...

You averted your gaze to the side and no surprise, it was Miku. Your old classmate from high school. You haven't seen her ever since your graduation.

"I never even knew you and Shinichiro got married" She blurted out, trying to strike up a conversation with you.

You didn't say anything, you just looked at her as she kept talking.

"Kinda sad you didn't invite me to your wedding" She said then laughed. "But it's not like I would go to an event that involves him anyway"

"Honestly, I don't know what you see in him." Miku continued, "He was nothing but a troublemaker"

"I'm actually kinda glad he's dead because someone like him doesn't deserve to be alive—" Miku was then cut off when a punch flew her way causing her to fall back to the ground.

Hissing in pain, she placed her hand on her nose then looked at it to see fresh blood.

"WHAT THE HELL (Y/N)?!—"

"Who the fuck do you think you are to say that?" You asked in a low threatening tone as you slowly approached her body.

"So what now?" Benkei asked as he rested his back against the wall next to the front door.

Wakasa shrugged his shoulders, same with Takeomi.

Benkei let out a deep sigh, "How about we just go-"

"AHHH!"

A high pitched scream suddenly alarmed everyone. It was coming from the other side of the house.

The three hurriedly rushed to see where the scream was and was stunned to see you swinging punches at Miku as she struggled break free.

"Holy shit!" Benkei quickly ran to you and pulled you away. "(Y/n) what the hell?!"

"DID YOU ONLY COME TO HIS FUNERAL SO YOU CAN SHIT-TALK ABOUT HIM?!" You shouted as you were being held back by Wakasa, Takeomi and Benkei.

"YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHTS TO REAPPEAR OUT OF NOWHERE AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS AND SAY SOME CRAP."

"BE SERIOUS (Y/N)! LOOK AT WHERE ITS GOTTEN YOU AFTER YOU DECIDED TO LET THIS GUY INTO YOUR LIFE. SHINICHIRO WAS A NOBODY!" Miku argued back.

A vein appeared on your forehead as you clenched your fists. "GET HIS NAME OUT OF YOUR FILTHY MOUTH-"

"(Y/n)-san..?"

You froze then turned to the voice.

There standing at the door were grandpa, Mrs. Sano, Mikey and Emma.

Your face softened as you saw the worried look on Emma's face as she stood behind Mikey.

"Emma..." You then clicked your tongue and released yourself from Benkei's grasp. Your eyes glared back at Miku who was completely covered in her own blood, "Get out of here and never show your face anywhere near me ever again. The next time I hear you say anything about Shinichiro, I'll fucking kill you." You exclaimed then made your way back inside the house as Mrs. Sano followed you from behind.

Mikey peeked his head at the door to the kitchen and could see you sitting on the chair at the dining table as his mother wrapped bandages around your hands.

"I'm sorry" You apologized to her as she continued to patch up your wounds. "I didn't like the way she was talking about Shinichiro"

Mrs. Sano then froze for a second. Tears dripped down from her face as she covered her face and sobbed in front of you.

Mikey gazed at the floor then went behind the door and turned to Emma who was sitting on the floor next to him.

"Mikey" She said his name.

"Hm?"

"Is everything gonna change from now on?" Her questioned made him go quiet. "Shin-nii is gone... And (Y/n)-san isn't the same anymore.." She muttered as tears began to form under her eyes.

"What do we do now..? I'm scared Mikey..." Small sobs left past her lips.

Mikey crouched down to her level then embraced her with a big hug.

Not a single word came out of his mouth.

He knows nothing could make this situation better anyway.
