CHAPTER FORTY

Knocking on the door, Emma slowly pushed the door open and entered your bedroom with a tray of food for you.

"(Y/n)-san..? I brought you dinner." She exclaimed as she looked to your direction.

"Thanks Emma, just keep it on the table next to my bed" You said, not even taking a glance at her since your focus was on the computer screen.

Emma walked up to the table then her eyebrows lowered as she frowned upon seeing the tray of food that she had left for you this afternoon for lunch. It hasn't been touched at all. Not even a bit.

She placed the tray that she holding, on the bed then took the tray from this afternoon and exited the room in silence to not disturb you.

It's been like this for the past few days after Shinichiro's funeral.

You stay in your bedroom all day long sitting at your desk typing on your computer non-stop. The only time you get up from your seat is when you need to use the toilet or shower. You haven't slept at all those past few days. You forced yourself awake by drinking coffee resulting in dark circles to start becoming visible under your eyes.

You distracted yourself from thinking about him by working on your project.

The project went from 42% finished to 80% within those few days by you alone in this sad dark cold bedroom.

Just as you were typing on your computer, your eyes suddenly shifted to the calendar beside the lamp.

You gazed at the 20th that was circled in red with 'Mikey's birthday!!' written under it.

Seeing that made you pause from your work. You picked up the calendar then stared at it for a few seconds before looking back at the computer.

August 19th, 2003 was today's date.

You ripped a small piece from a scrap paper then wrote a few things before putting it in your bag then wore a jacket and left your bedroom.

As you were putting on your shoes, your cat Tofu happened to find you there and quickly rushed over to you.

Gently rubbing her body against your leg as she purred softly.

You gave her a pat on the head then headed out of the front door as she sat on the porch and watched you walk further and further away.

You took out the piece of paper from your bag then reread it once more before grabbing a shopping basket.

List:
-Cake flour
-Unsalted butter
-Whole milk
-Eggs
-Heavy whipping cream
-Cream cheese
-Strawberries
-Mint leaves

You spent around 30 minutes walking back and fourth around the supermarket to find all the things from the list and after you were done, you went to check-out at the cashier.

You placed the basket on the counter and the person working as the cashier did their job.

"Okay ma'am that will be 130 dollars" He said.

You weren't that surprised by the price since you chose the high quality strawberries.

Taking out your wallet, you handed the man money and left the supermarket.

But you weren't finished yet. You went to a few more stores to get what you needed before returning home and secretly sneaked into the kitchen to put the eggs or whatever into the fridge and cabinets then tiptoed to your bedroom to avoid making any sounds.
