The air was hot and energy was high. Miyoung stared out the window as the moving car passed by all the places she knew all too well. The same places she's been yearning to see since she left for the school year.
She rolled down the window before folding her arms and plopping her head on top of them. The hot air blew her hair over her face but it could never be able to conceal the smile plastered on her lips.
It truly was summer.
Euphoric thoughts filled her mind just as she glanced back at her father behind the steering wheel. The older man swiftly flickered his eyes to her. "You happy to be back, kiddo?" He asked.
Miyoung eagerly nodded. "Of course. I've missed being home." She replied before leaning over to the other and pressing a small kiss on her father's cheek. "And I missed seeing my favourite dad."
This made the man chuckle, but never once did his attention stray from the road. "I'd sure hope I was your favourite."
Miyoung let out a little giggle before tucking her hair behind her ear and going back to watching the outside world. It didn't help one bit as her hair was right back to covering her eyes. Though it didn't matter as she saw the car approaching their street.
"Welcome home, kiddo."
The girl couldn't help but widely grin as her home came in sight. She could barely wait to finally be back in her own room. Thoughts about her bedroom was quickly interrupted as she noticed the moving truck parked at the house right next to theirs. New neighbours?
"Oh, right. The Hwangs moved out a week ago. I'm guessing the new people are moving in now." Her father explained upon noticing her confused gaze.
"Oh... Okay." She simply responded. Well, she should've expected there to be some changes after being away for a year.
Once the car stilled in the driveway, Miyoung didn't hesitate to jump out. Her father told her that he'd bring in her bags, giving her the green light to enter without any other delays.
Throwing open the front door, Miyoung was immediately welcomed by her mother. "Honey, you're home!" The woman exclaimed from the kitchen and Miyoung ran to hug her.
Oh, how much she's missed her mother's hugs. She inhaled the woman's scent and tried to engrave the moment in her mind forever. After pulling away, she came to the conclusion that she'll be needing a lot more of those in the next three months.
"We can catch up later, sweetheart. But for now, I think it's better you go check your room first." Miyoung's grin widened and didn't waste another second before running up the stairs. Mrs. Choi chuckled to herself as she watched her daughter almost trip herself.
Miyoung loved surprises. No matter what it was, the thrill of it always made her so happy. So, when she swung open her bedroom door and saw the girl sitting on the bed, she couldn't contain her excitement as she jumped on top of the older.
"Ow, Miyoung. You're killing me!" The girl yelled, but the smile on her face gave away that she didn't mind their positions one bit.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I just can't believe you're here, sitting on my bed and breathing the same oxygen as I am. Like I can physically touch you." Miyoung rambled on to which the other only laughed.
"I've missed you, Mimi." She muttered and smiled up at the younger.
"Not as much as I missed you, Sora." Miyoung said back before going in for a proper hug this time. "Where's Beomgyu, by the way?"
