"Kill them all!" Fantum reiterated. "And do it now before they cause further damage."
"No!" Kat intervened. 'That's not who we are. We have a responsibility."
"Our responsibility," Fantum mocked her. "That's all we ever hear from you. Meanwhile, our footsteps are getting smaller each day. I say we've given them enough time. It's either them or us! This council must decide today. Them or us?"
"Kat," Xaxu chimed in, "ignore her. Killing the humans is not an option."
"I agree. As bad as they are, none of them deserves the black wand."
"Even so, we can't just let them keep sucking us dry until we're nothing."
"Of course not."
"Then do you agree with Mira and Jarka? Do we befriend humans to spread our message?"
"Mother made it clear. They should make the call. No one should prompt them."
"I agree with Kat," Xaxu announced. "Let's all respect Mother's wishes."
"Besides! Don't forget that we're all one," Kat reminded her sisters. "If we're agitated about the wait, no doubt they'll be too."
"Nonsense!" Fantum barged in. "They're way beneath the likes of us."
"None is above or below the other," Xaxu corrected her. "The lines of separation are thin."
"Then answer me this," Fantum said. "Who has the power to judge or erase flesh and blood?"
"Certainly not you," Xaxu said simply, "and you know it."
Qira, the red witch, slid into the banter now. "Kat, you need to make one thing clear, though."
"What's that?"
"How do we keep them from sucking us dry before Mother returns?"
"Recently, I've been making the humans a study. Not all of them deserve death."
"I certainly beg to differ."
"Let's settle down," Xaxu called them to order. "Tell us who deserves death?"
"What sucks us is a mindset. Whether rich or poor, the destructive ones span across races and nations. Our job, as I see it, is to reduce their numbers; destroy the ones who drain us most."
"My sister, you know as well as I do that there's good in bad and bad in good."
"I know that."
"Then you must know that there's no way to truly erase negativity."
"Maybe we can keep the ones who are more good than bad."
"What good? Not one of those creatures is good. I say kill them all and fast!"
Kat ignored Fantum. "What if I found a way to sift them out?"
"You have a plan." Xaxu seemed pleased.
"Always." Kat threw a cheeky smile Fantum's way. "It's a bit dangerous but it'll work."
"Speak up then."
