Everything clears and I'm on the bus again, but as the only passenger with still no driver. I clutch my head and bend over in frustration, wondering when the nightmare will end. Then I feel a familiar presence sitting next to me. I look up into her black mistiness.
"There's one more door," says the voice that pours like rain. "Do want to continue or stop?"
I put some serious thought into it then ask. "What about Fantum?"
"She's gone."
"For good?"
"For now," Kat says. "Why? Are you afraid of her?"
"Yes! She tried to kill me."
"She's always going to try to kill you."
"What! Get rid of her then."
"We all have our roles," is all she offers.
"And mine is to get pulverized to death?"
"Look! I can't fight your battles for you. All I can do is guide you to the path and leave you."
"No doubt alone, for that mad woman, or whatever she is, to have her way with me."
"Mary, do you want to continue or stop right here? I won't ask again."
I nod. And as soon as I do, the same owl returns and screeches three times to unlock the door.
