For whatever reason, I take the bait, and walk back over to the red clock then shift the long hand to seven, the short to six and the second hand to nine. Again the calendar shuffles until it stops on September. The seven lights up. Now the clock tumbles to six. Fear crawls throughout my body waiting for the other shoe to drop. And it happens. The crystallized white powder breaks into animated pieces and eats away at the glass that divides two and three. Soon they leap onto each person in the room. I watch as they devour the Copper and Tessa but turn away when it digs into Pete and Hazel.

"Oh, my God! Do something. Fix it!"

"You do something." Fantum cackles. "You're the one she chose. Prove your worthiness."

As usual, I'm about to curl into my little ball; then I remember what Andromalius said about my intuition. Lord, I hope this works, I think to myself before turning all the hands anti-clockwise.

"Ahhh!" Fantum screams; then in her anger swats the floor below us with her tail.
