Mag returns, no doubt the devil here to rob me of my last dance with pleasure. I climb out quickly, the first chance I get when she turns her back. But it's silly really. Wouldn't I be naked to get all that mud on me? Matters not, Mary. I cling to the towel for dear life until she's ready.
"So what's it like?" I ask as she gathers her bag of tricks.
"Is this your first time?"
No! I'm just asking to make small talk. Of course, it's my first time.
"Yes," I say instead. "My friend Hazel paid for it. It's my birthday."
"Happy birthday, Mary." Then she reaches for a remote. "This calls for something special."
At first, there's a piano introduction; then some sort of mantra I can't hear because the piano doesn't know when to take a hint.
"Sounds relaxing. I just can't make out the words."
"He's saying Sa," she repeats slowly for my benefit. "Ta. Na. Ma."
"Sa. Ta. Na. Ma," I repeat after her.
"Now, let me tell you what to expect," Mag begins. "First, I'll massage you from head to toe; then exfoliate you and apply the mud. Next I'll wrap you in plastic and cover you with a blanket."
"You make it sound so good."
"Not as good as it'll feel," she assures me. "Just close your eyes and relax. Enjoy the moment."
