~chapter twenty five~

It was dark. I could feel my heart clenching and I tried to open my eyes. Through the small narrow opening I could see the lights. Blue, red, white. Everything seemed like straight out of a movie, but with me as the main cast.
I wished so bad for it to end. The pain which came from my forehead and even from my chest. These loud clangs. They were anywhere, and they wouldn't stop. Sirens, people shouting and the sound of cars stopping by abruptly.
And there she was. I tried to save her...I really tried. But it seemed like everything had now come to end. Her pale lips, the smile which faded when I saw her closing her beautiful brown golden eyes and the way she looked so peacefully lying on my lap, while I stroked her long light hair.
I tried to calm her, to make her believe everything is okay, everything will be okay. But here I am. Dried tears across her and my cheeks. The last person who believed in me, gone.
I didn't noticed that I closed my eyes again, until someone slowly but surely opened the car door to the small car. The next thing I knew is that this person gently lifted the girl, I hold on to right now like my own life and got her out of the car.
Then I suddenly could heare them saying something which made my heart stop like a mashine without any electricity.
"I think she doesn't have any pulse sir."
Please... Please say that's not true. My thoughts lapsed into a plea, which only made itself felt externally with a quiet whimper. Because of the shock, I didn't seem capable of anything more.
Trying to open my mouth but at the same time lacking the necessary oxygen. It seemed like I had forgotten how to breathe.
Ari...Ari just can't...She can't...no. She is like family to me and I love her more than anything.
Thoughts swirled in my head, my brain on high alert.
Now I also felt a pair of hands, hoisting me out of the car, which looked like a compressed tin can from the outside.
Weakly, I tried to keep my eyes open to look for the red-haired female, who was now gone.
As I let my gaze wander through the clutter, I recognized people like the ones who had been caring for me for the past few days. My eyes wandered a little to the right, where a police vehicle was, whose blue lights were now blinding me.
I held my hands, which appeared to be coated in red liquid, in front of my face to protect myself from the horrific radiation. It was Ari's blood. A dark drop that looked like a beautiful pearl fell on the ground and my ears seemed to have been so sensitive that they heard the impact.
"Where's Ari?" Finally my lips parted.
My mouth was dry and the words were struggling to find their way to freedom. My head pounding.
I felt the slight pain in the chest area again and let a soft groan from me.
"Is that the name of the female who was in your car?" I nodded.
The paramedic seemed to know what I wanted to ask because I got an answer without waiting.
"We're going to take them both to the hospital. The young woman is in bad shape. So far we've noticed a few ribs showing damage from the impact.
The worrying thing is that if they are broken, they're affecting dangerously the normal blood flow of the heart ." I swallowed in shock.
I knew Ari had it worse. I jerked the steering wheel the moment I saw the truck.
