The Truth and The Lie

Chapter 38

"This is just getting ridiculously messy." I said and sighed as I read Riley's report on what we got on Sotto Voce's phone.

"At least our job's finished." Toby said as he and Jack were behind me standing while I was sitting down in the middle of the table with only Riley sitting beside me.

"Did I tell you that our job's finished?" I asked clearly annoyed. Toby then opened his mouth but noticed I wasn't in the mood so he just kept silent. "That's what I thought."

"Hey, y/n. Maybe you should ease up a bit. I know things are getting messy again but you don't have to take it out on the team." Jack whispered to me while Riley looked at me and nodded.

I sighed and eventually nodded at Jack who stood back up straight behind me with Toby. "Sorry about that Toby. I'm just having a hard time." I said as I looked over at him.

"As long as you promise no more field missions for me." He said with a smile making us chuckle. "I'll think about it."

After a while, Ele came inside the meeting room with Maria, Agent Hunt, and Jenkins. "Y/n, you said you have some news." Maria said and I motioned for her and the rest to sit down first. "Let's wait for the rest."

"You don't have to." A voice said as the door opened again with Wanda and Ria in front while the rest of the avengers were behind them. "We're here."

"Let's start the meeting then." I said as both Ria and Ele naturally went behind me. "Riley, if you will." I said as I looked at her and she responded with a nod.

"From the intel we gathered from Sotto Voce's phone  we now know what type of weapons and armors he sold to Rumlow."

"Armors?" Sam asked and I smiled as I was impressed he noticed it. "We believe Rumlow is putting together a team for his next move." Riley said as she put on the screen the weapons and armors that were sold.

There were Ar-15s, body armors, bombs, rocket launchers, and well the list goes on.

"He already wreaked havoc with just him. I don't know how much he can do with a team of mercenaries or terrorists." Ria said and the room was silent.

"We can't do anything about that except prepare." I said to get everyone's attention. "Our intel says his next target is in Lagos, Nigeria."

"I understand that this mission is for the avengers but I need to know your plan to better protect you guys and make contingency plans." I said and looked at Cap.

"I was thinking we should alert the Nigerian authorities first about a possible terrorist attack." Steve said and I shook my head. "I don't think that's a wise decision Cap." Ele said

"Why's that?" He asked and Jack stepped up before she could even explain. "If we tip off the Nigerian government and Rumlow notices he can attack at random and we'll have further disadvantages then." Jack explained

"Then staking out the police station and waiting for him to come to us would be my alternate plan." Steve said as I thought about it.

"We don't know if Rumlow would be waiting for us so we're going to stake out the police station." Steve said and Jack and Ele looked over at me. "That could work boss."

I sighed and ran my hand through my hair. "I'm going to be honest with all of you. We are going to be taken by surprise." I said as everyone listened in.

"Rumlow played us to his territory. Whatever we choose to do he'll have countermeasures so we'll always be at a disadvantage."

"If we report this intel to the authorities he can attack at random and we won't be able to respond quick enough to save civilians."
