Pisces POV
"I've been reading books of old, the legends and the myths --"
I froze, my hand frozen on Aries's doorknob. I pressed my ear to the door as she sang softly through rustling sounds.
"Achilles and his gold, Hercules and his gifts. Spiderman's control, Batman with his fists -- and clearly I don't see myself upon that list. She said -- oh, hi Pisces."
I blinked, accidentally tumbling through her doorway. I let out a small, "Oomph," as I fell on her carpeted floor, and she helped me up, humming the rest of the song. "You finally showed everyone that you're still alive. You missed out Scorpio spilling how Libra disappeared!"
I froze. "Wait -- he did?"
Aries burst into laughter at the look on my face, her hair falling into her eyes. She brushed it out and gave me an amused look. "Cancer was in interrogation mode -- nothing stopped him. You should've seen Scorp's face." Her smile shifted into something more sad and she returned to sifting through her closet, singing the next words softly. "She said where you wanna go, how much you wanna risk? Shouldn't have spent so much time with your new boyfriend, huh? I'm not looking for somebody with some superhuman gifts. Do you have any tea in your room?"
I blinked again. "Um, what?"
Aries glanced back at me, and I took the opportunity to tell her quickly, "Are you considering going after a singing major when we get back? Your voice is really good."
Aries pondered that idea. "I was thinking of going after acting -- but that's a good idea. And I meant eucalyptus tea. I need it for my headache."
"You have a headache?" I asked.
She nodded with a pained smile and started looking in her closet again. "I know it's in here somewhere -- what do you need, Pisces?"
I cleared my throat awkwardly, Caleb's tale swirling through my mind. "You're good at telling scary stories. Could you help me?"
Aries looked at me curiously, a eucalyptus tea packet in her hand. "What's the scary story about?"
This is what I loved about Aries. She didn't ask any useless questions like, Why do you need to tell a scary story? Why are you climbing out the window at 3 am? What's in that giant body-bag under your bed?
Well, okay, she did ask the last one, but thankfully she didn't tell anybody about the secret stash of candy I had saved up from Halloween.
"Pretending to be a thirteen-year-old girl was smart," she had said, patting me on the head.
"It's about the Scarlet Queen," I said, regretting the words as soon as I said them. I closed my eyes and mumbled, "It's a myth that I thought might explain how Libra disappeared, but if Scorpio told you, then I suppose that we don't need it."
